I have windows XP on my computer and every time i turn it on it gets into windows and hangs there for about 20 seconds. If i disbale the netowrk it all works fine without any hang at the start.

My Specs are as follows.

Intel P4 2.40B
Gigabyte 8PE667 Pro
512MB Crucial RAM
On-Board Intel 10/100Pro VE Network Card.
Seagate 7200RPM 80GB HDD
Hercules Gametheatre XP 7.1
Leadtek Winfast Ge-Force 4 Ti-4400
Lite-On 16x48x DVD Drive
Lite-On 40x12x48 CD-RW Drive.

It's no major problem its just annoying that i cant turn my computer on and start whooping ppl's butts in battlefield straight away.

 This is an exceptionally bas sig!

This hang could be the network card or XP trying to auto sense the media being used for the network connection. Could also be getting DHCP configutation. Trying changing the media type to a spcific type instead of auto sense and use static IP addresses to see if that helps.

My XP pro (corp) also hangs and sometimes locks at the start up bar??
Goes across about 9 or 10 times and either pauses or usually locks??
Event viewer links me to microsquish link that is far from helpful!!
Fips and processor drivers are not being loaded at startup?? Error 7000..
Please advise..

There is a very easy fix for this.

What is happening is that your computer is negotiating with the network trying to get an IP address.

To get past this do the following:

start -> connect to -> show all connections -> right-click the connection and select properties -> network tab -> highligh tcp/ip and select properties -> manually enter 192.168.0.1 as your ip address -> okay -> okay.

restart the computer, and it will work fine.

It's so convenient working as a tech for AT&T ;-)

Try bootvis from MS. It knocked about 7 sec off my boot time, and I didn't hang up.
Might be worth a shot.

My Daddy used to tell me:
It's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you're stupid, then it is to open your mouth and prove it.
I never was good at taking advice!

Hey Guys,
My rig is working fine if I leave it on, but after a restart or shutdown it always hangs on the 15th time across. What is kooky is that almost every time I hold the power for 4 seconds and then start windows normally for the second time and it works fine after 9 or 10 times across??
I have set my Ip to 192.168.0.1
How crucial is the DHCP?
I have also enabled tcp/ip over netBios.
1 final thing - I had to install ipx/spx networking from HP in order to print to my BIG Plotter..??>.
Thanks in Advance - Morgan

Hello again-
By hanging on the 15th time across I mean to say that it is locking.
This forces me to hard boot and then it usually works??
I am curious about this bootvis from Microsquish?
Can anyone else reccommend this or another??
I already have system suite 4.0 which has some good registry tools.
Thank You !!
