Fast write disabled

I cannot enable the "fast write".

If I enable it in the BIOS and run wcpuid and 3dmark2001, they both say that the "fast write" is disabled.
I have the radeon 8500LE and an Abit KX7-333.

I've had the same prob with an Epox 8k7a+ an a GFII-gts.
Now my brother has the GFII and the "fast write" is enabled?????

So what's wrong?

If I buy the boxed version of the "hammer", will I get a box of nails for free??

The 8500 LE does not support fast writes. So you can enable it all you want in the Bios it will still be disabled.

If you're using a 64meg card, at 1024x768, then fast writes aren't going to help you at all. More often than not, it'll pull you down.

At 1280x1024 and above, it will help you <i>slightly</i>.

1600*1200*32 @75Hz FSAA*2
