When checking on specs. of my network card, can someone explain to me what the 'burst rate' is? And why a higher rate could be a help/problem?

burst rate is usually the transfer of data from a buffer (fast) i dont know how that applies on a nic. i higher burst rate could only be bad because the destination couldnt handle the flow.

i went to the tomshardware forums and all i got was this lousy signature.
