Different AGP Form Factor?

I brought an old AGP (Matrox G200) and PCI video cards in to work today, so I could use them with my new dual monitor setup.

I open up my IBM machine, and notice the the slot marked AGP has a different "female" end than my G200's "male" end. What gives? I thought and AGP slot was an AGP slot? Did I miss some technological innovation?

I believe the slots are keyed depending on the type of AGP card they can support. (If this is what you are talking about there are notches cut in the bottom of the card that don't line up with the slot (But in all the card is the right size)) I think there are/were 2 or 3 types of AGP cards 1.5, 3.3 and 5Volt. I believe now they have settled on a standard but the new motherboards don't support the old voltage. The older motherboards sometimes had a jumper for selecting the voltage so you could run both types.

Thats about best I can remember it.

If it's longer it's just an AGP Pro slot, a standard card won't use the extended part of the slot, but still works. If it's keyed differently, it's probably because they did that when they changed from 2x to 4x, so that some boards won't support 2x cards.
