According to Tom's benchmark tests, on an AXP 2700+ that card gets ~6800 3dmarks. It's almost as if you have the score of a GF2 MX400. FutureMark's forums will be the best place to ask around.

Tell me about it... and then I tried again after changing the settings (I OCed the core from 270 -> 310Mhz and the memory from 405 -> 470Mhz) and only got 2600 points... and I've got a Crystal Orb on the GPU... wtf?

Actually, the usual (minimum) score on an MX is around 5,500 - 6,000 ... half the price for half the performance... but I'm not even getting half the performance i'm supposed to

Several things you should check.

-Are your AGP drivers properly installed and your bios properly configured to run your card as AGP4x? If you are stuck in PCI bus mode that'll drag you down. A lot.

-Are you running the proper drivers, and have you tried reinstalling the newest drivers?

-Is AntiAliasing and Anisotropic Filtering disabled in your drivers?

-Are you running 3dmark at default settings?

Yes, AGP drivers are st right
Yes, I'm running the newest drivers, and yes, I've reinstalled these nonetheless.
Antialiasing and anisotropic filtering is NOT disabled
And I've run 3DMark on default, as well as on different settings, with the core and memory non-overclocked as well as overclocked (GPU from 270 -> 305Mhz; memory from 405 -> 450Mhz)

you aren't gonna get much higher-i know coz i used to have an mx440 and they are not high-end or anything, though not a bad card.bear in mind that the toms benchmarks were done with a 2700 and dual channel ddr so that is gonna make a difference.for example i oc'd my xp 2000 by a mere 100ish MHz and my 3dmark went up by over 150 points.
what does it matter anyway?so long as you feel the card is performing ok in games etc then it doesn't make any difference what your 3dmark score is.

no matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd. :]

Actually, thats what made me think of benchammrking it to start with... it was O.K. for games, but not great, and actually lagging a little bit here and there (in games like HitMan 2 and Mechwarrior Mercenaries - though I tried Splinter Cell and I was pleased with that much..) and I'm about to sell-off the card for an upgrade anyways (either a GeForce FX, or maybe a Ti4200, but most likely either a Radeon 8500le or 9000pro), so thats why I wan't to know if it might be hardware (aka returnable/replaceable) problems so that I don't have to deal with any possible problems once its out of my hands

Actually DO NOT BUY a 9000pro that card is about as good as the current card u are running, buy a 9500pro for about $180dollars... plus another thing to check and make sure to have AA and Anostropic filterings OFF not on, those will cause your score to lower by alot. And why would u buy a geforce FX or a ti4200? Why choose lol the FX will decimate a 4200 and the price gap will be HUGE prolly a margin of about 150 bucks lol. so its up to you, if u want good proformance for price then a ti4200 but if ya want to pay about 200ish and get great proformace that will last in the age of the DX9 life then a 9500pro verison btw DX9 prolly won't be used for another 6 months so don't expect a bunch of DX9 games =) If ya want high end u can get a 9700pro for about 300 bucks on ebay and the 9700 non pros go for about 275ish and a GFX will be around $300

I tried it again with V-sync disabled, and i got an even lower score (2000 points)... thing is, I'm running a good motherboard (MSI KT3Ultra with 333Mhz Samsung DDR-RAM) and an Athlon 1600@1.4GHz... so I shouldn't be getting this bullsh*t....

and a GFX will be around $300
Eh...no. I seriously doubt that. The 9700Pro had a SRP of 399 dollars (or was it 499?) and nVidia cards always start out at higher prices, I think it will start out at $499 minimum. Most people estimate it will cost more. So I don´t know where you´re getting this 300 dollars from.

Well anytime you run 3dmark must make sure the vsync is off both on the direct3d tab and the opengl tab in the driver menu....with vsync on the fps will be really low because it is syncronized....(ie...with vsync on my radeon 9700pro the fps never leaves 60...)....and make sure you have anti-aliasing disabled!...for this will kill your score

Yeah but my budget isn't that hight - thats why. I was just sayng the GeForce FX hoping that it would be lower in price than that (we'll see) since I can get everything wholesale prices (I own my own computer company called "Byte This Computers")... And I'm in Canada, so things are a little more expensive down the line anyways. If I sell my Mx440 for about $115CAD (=US$75) then at most I'm willing to double that for a new one. Thats why I was thinking a Radeon 8500LE, I've heard its better than the 9000Pro, and I can get it for CAD$135 (=US$90), while the GeForce Ti4200 would cost me about CAD$220 (=US$140) and I'm wondering what the real performance difference is anyways... would the money be worth it more in my pocket for the other things I need (ie. new monitor, printer, CDRW, and more supply stock for resale, heh... also need new aquarium for pet baby redtail boa - not everything is always about computers ;) - and bills bills bills). Basically, I'm not playing counterstrike or unreal tournament 24 hours a day, but my computer is my main gaming rig, and as such I'd like nice performance nonetheless.

it was a damn estimate, why take it so literal
Because you said "and a GFX will be around $300". If you´re making estimates point that out. Not everyone on the board are as sceptical as me. BTW, dutch online stores have 700 euro as a starting price for the GFfx. They don´t actually have the cards yet.

Hi,
I think you have a GF4 MX440 SDRAM version of VGA Card instead of DDR version, that's why you have this poor benchmark result.

*Always go Namebrand go ASUS!

its the DDR version - I'm sure... and by the way, "go Asus" if you have money to blow, heh.

Have you ever stuck your finger in a Vantec Tornado? That's 5700rpm right there - ouch. Today's public service announcement: don't play with plugged-in fans - especially Tornados..heh.

Never use the latest drivers for a GeForce2. Yes, the GeForce4 MX440 is a GeForce2.
