I was wonderinf if the nvidia geforce fx demos once they are release would work on an at radeon 9500 pro as i need a new vid card soon (i made my ti4200 unstable even at stock speeds because i overclocked my mem to much) i have no experience with ati cards. Do the current nvidia demos work on ati cards?

if the card meets the DirectX requirments of the demo, then it should. if the demo was meant to run on a GF4 TI4600, and you have a Radeon 9000 (non pro) then i doubt it would run at a good framerate , for example, but it would run

as for the GFFX demos, it depends if NVIDIA uses the advanced features of the card (DX9 ++. the radeon 9500 is only DX9). if they stick to DX9 specs then the demo should run

because the GF FX demos still have not been released, it's impossible to say whether they will run on a ATI 9700 or nor but I can guarantee that they won't work on any ATI card!

I'm just wondering why you absolutely need to be able to run those demos? It's only to show them to your friends or is there some practical need?

oh I think they will work, just not very well/fast when compared to a Nvidia system (optimisations & all).. its just software... a DX9 demo is a Direct X9 demo, any system with directX9 on it should (at least in theory) run...

is it summer already ??? oh, its just the heat haze coming off my PC...

I've downloaded two demos from NVidia - Grace and Bugs, both don't work on my 9500Pro. I think those new demos won't work either, BTW where is it written they are DX9 demos? Those two demos from NVidia I have seem to be OpenGL programs, propably using some NVidia-specific extensions...

the reason that nvidia demos don't run on ATI hardware has nothing to do with speed or performance of ATI cards but because these demos will check for nvidia hardware before running. Same thing as with ATI demos not running on nvidia hardware. It's a marketing strategy, nothing more...

the 9500/9700 demos only work if you have dx9 and catalyst 3+ installed (meaning you can run them on an nvidia card). Nvidia may do the same thing, we'll just have to wait. Any word on a dx9 game will be released?

If its not broken, you're not trying hard enough.

He may mean a DX9 driver.

What's that nVidia demo benchmark that people use? Code Creatures or something like that. It runs fine on ATI cards.

*Dual PIII-800 @900 i440BX and Tualeron 1.2 @1.74 i815*

No, I was saying that Nvidia may do the same thing ATI did, making the demos run only on Nvidia cards. The 9700 demos only work on 9700/9500 series cards.

If its not broken, you're not trying hard enough.

JCLW, the Code Creatures Benchmark is a generic DX8.1 benchmark! It's not developped by nvidia so it will run on any DX8.1 compatible Hardware...

Funny.

To bad I couldn´t get the Codecreatures bench to install, I´m guessing it´s because I have a finnsih version of Windows 98SE installed.
