DPNs / Driver Files for Dell Part Numbers

Last response: in Computer Brands

December 4, 2004 2:40:33 PM

Archived from groups: alt.sys.pc-clone.dell (More info?)

Note:
The following is a text file and will most likely get broken up by
newsreaders and look TERRIBLE.
If you have a desire to see the original file, download this file: (Opens
in Notepad, with no word wrap).
http://personalpages.tds.net/~rcsilk/files/drivers.txt (should be available
within 10 minutes of posting this message.)

Note: This text lists dell part numbers (DPNs) and a description of that
device, and the driver file names / locations for those parts. This list is
current only up to 10/2001, so it's only good for older systems. This is a
chart I developed in real-time while actually helping Dell customers get
their drivers loaded, so the list should be at least 99.9% accurate.

At the very least, you should be able to use a text search function of your
reader to find your DPN in question, and find info related to that.

Example: searching for 15JDG
will result in
15JDG 1 PLR CRD,PLN,W/SND/CAP,DIM,LXXXcxr chipset (see below)
D:\DRIVERS\WIN98\2127R\ENG\Z0377C01.EXE
along with about 5 to 10 more lines of information (for this particular
item-- most descriptions are only one line long.)
D:\DRIVERS usually refers to a location on a Dell Resource CD, as well as
RCD:\
DFL or Dell FileLib refers to the online file library.

Some items refer to their own driver CD that came with the original
purchase.

It does. Which is why you should have just posted a description
of what it contains, then posted the URL on your web page, as you
did:

since prolly 99-44/100% of Usenet readers can also access web
pages to download goodies like this.

600+ line posts are usually the venue of choice for trolls
spreading incomprehensible screeds on politics, konspiracies, et
al; samples of their atrocious poetry; and etc., etc., etc.s up
the kazoo.

[Not gainsaying the value of that list, nor the effort that went
into creating it, nor your generosity in making the results of
that effort available, all of which are commendable.]

I should also have mentioned that by right clicking the link, you can SAVE
the file to hard drive.
http://personalpages.tds.net/~rcsilk/files/drivers.txt
(provided you see the link in clickable form...)

also forgot to mention:

Good point! Wasn't aware the file was 600+ lines long!(?)
However, when googling for dell part numbers, this post should show up now,
and hopefully be of assistance.

Danke... I felt that, despite my cynical responses to some posts here, I
really *would* like to contribute something helpful.
