Wow, i actually used this site for my downloads. Farewell, didn't see this coming.
March 25, 2009 11:08:02 PM

This sucks. Filefront had damn good transfer rates.

I will have to use gamershell.com again.

Oh and if this is an April Fools joke, it isn't very funny. I'm wasting my bandwidth redownloading the files I uploaded to their site.
March 25, 2009 11:32:09 PM

I don't think its a joke.

I have noticed the increased placement of ads on the site, but is for the same ad over and over again. I suspected they were running low on dough.
March 25, 2009 11:36:23 PM

WTF. Darn it all. That's too bad as I use to download stuff from them all the time. Guess it's just Gamers Hell left or using bit torrents.
March 25, 2009 11:37:42 PM

I think this was one of the few major sites that didn't have a cue system yet.
March 25, 2009 11:47:49 PM

Great, back to FilePlanet with so many fucking ads.
FilePlanet WILL be MISSED. :(

R.I.P. FilePlanet

I read this several hours ago already on moddb.com... It's a real shame to see them go.

I thought they actually had REALLY crappy transfer rates. (They always gave me about 30kbps vs 55kbps I got at gamershell or fileplanet or filefront.)

However, filefront required no registration... which is something that I will miss... a lot.

R.I.P. FF.

Must be the location of the server. I would get 600KB on DSL and about 800KB+ on cable.

A good portion of the FileFront Network administration are working on setting up a new network in conjunction with Strategy Informer.

Among those speculated to be involved thus far are some of the more porminent FF staff from over the years, includng Jeff "n0e" Mills, Phenix, Jos "Pro-Filer" Jongejan, Killer Kyle, Lulolwen, Sheepeep, Jamie, Kerian, DarthInsidious, STALKER, and Mikouen.
March 26, 2009 4:10:28 AM

I get around 1.8MB/s, i don't see how they would struggle with 30kb/s, I mean really?

I hate to see them go as well. They were the best place to get patches and stuff from, since 1. they had no queue and 2. did not require you to sign up to get decent speeds(FilePlanet/shack). Heck I was a paid member @ FP and still got crappy speeds from them.
March 26, 2009 4:11:59 AM

I'm not a fan of the unpredictable, and usually bad, speeds of BitTorrent (for me that is). FileFront, GamersHell and if worst comes to worst, FilePlanet, are what I use most of the time. FileFront was my favourite for the reasons mentioned by other commentors.

I missed this when replying, I noticed this place while looking for a couple of mods for World in Conflict just a couple of days ago, and I like it, at least i wont have to rely on FP/FS

Great... the only good download site is going down. Why couldn't it be fileplanet!? UGH!

What about the Forum? I wasn't a nobody for once. I was one of the better technicians. Widely considered to be among the top 5 on the site. I'm going to miss the community... :(  --- Monster_user

Sad to see it going. Filefront was my first choice for downloading patches/mods.

Wow, this is sad. This was my spot for dl, great transer speeds and no wait.

I must admit though, in recent times I have not used it much at all.
March 26, 2009 12:32:40 PM

:(
I'm not using torrents ... so I quite rely on sites like this ....
March 26, 2009 1:24:16 PM

Can anyone recommend any non-queue and/or non-registration sites for game patches? Thanks!
March 26, 2009 2:59:40 PM

Think I found the problem. "FileFront was acquired by Ziff Davis Media Game Group in 2005."
March 26, 2009 3:46:45 PM

Crappy web site anyway. Glad to see it go.

Same question as above. Where can I go for HalfLife2 mods? Who will host all the talented modders out there?

thearm@gworfman: Gamershell.com

Thanks! I saw it above but with no mention of those features. :D

I always remember waiting. That's why I always avoid it.

Jeez!! I just came from GamersHell. No pictures!!! Only text descriptions.
March 26, 2009 5:02:01 PM

File front and the associated network sites were a great place to download files from. I did some work for them back about 3 years ago, and the staff was very professional and efficient. It will be a shame to see it go.
March 26, 2009 5:02:41 PM

I wonder what's going to happen to all that data they have...

as i remember, it was over a few terabuytes last time i checked...
March 26, 2009 6:30:01 PM

Sad day indeed. I generally download from filefront exclusively if possible.
March 26, 2009 7:31:19 PM

Well this is just great, for the games that dont use services like steam and GFW to update themselves Filefront was one of the very few places where publishers would give a remote damn to put thier stuff other than the grand queue that is FlilePlanet.Get your file and go about your buisiness.Intrestingly enough, wouldnt it be more effecient if publishers latched onto services like steam and GFW to send thier patches to be distributed to the masses with relative ease of implementation, meh who knows what the future holds, its still a shame to see the site go.

We are setting up new forums as well as getting the network sites up and operational. I hope to see many familiar faces when this time comes.

Official information regarding the creation of the new network and fourms can be found here;
http://www.therogueforums.com/filefront-preservation-fo...

Admittedly, there isn't much information just yet as we're still recovering and backing up all of the vast information on the network sites. But as things go operational and there is new news you will be able to find it at this location. Most of the regular members of our old forum community have flocked here as a temporary home looking to find out what the heck happened.
March 29, 2009 1:26:01 AM

No! This sucks, I used them all the time for my downloads, they gave me the best speeds. Also I could find all my game patches here without worry of it not working.
March 30, 2009 11:13:49 PM

Byebye.
Me love you long time filefront.

Filefront is not closing... the original owners/creators have bought the site back... notice on front page links to this:

Quote:
FileFront has been acquired by the original founders of the site and will NOT be suspended as previously announced. This is NOT an April Fool's Joke.

After learning about Ziff Davis Media's plan to suspend FileFront at the end of March, the original founders of FileFront made the decision to buy it back from Ziff Davis Media.

We're happy to announce to the gaming community that as of today, April 1st, 2009, FileFront is a completely independent company again and is no longer part of Ziff Davis Media. All previously suspended services should be active and working again. We thank Ziff Davis Media for their cooperation and willingness to keep the site and community alive.

Due to the very unfortunate timing of this event and related announcements on March 24th and April 1st (April Fool's Day), we'd like to make it perfectly clear that:

1) 1) The March 24th announcement about FileFront suspending its operation was NOT an early April Fool's joke.

2) This announcement about the original founders buying back FileFront from Ziff Davis Media is also NOT an April Fool's joke.

3) We're making this announcement on April 1st because the deal was completed today and we want to bring all services back online immediately.

4) We would NEVER suspend FileFront as an April Fool's joke.

5) We are happy to be back!

FileFront has existed in one form or another (originally as FileLeech and Voodoo Extreme's downloads) since 1997. In the last 12 years, FileFront has become the gaming community's most comprehensive and trafficked library hosting millions of files for thousands of games while requiring no registration and providing uncapped download speeds. We look forward to improving FileFront and serving the gaming community for years to come.

Welcome home. Game On!
