Is anyone having trouble with DirectX 9?
I just installed DirectX 9 so I can run new demos from ATI for the Hercules ATI 9700 pro video card but after I installed DirectX 9 every time i reboot right when windows starts after the boot screen it throws up a blue screen and lockups.
So i had to go in safe mode and restore.
Do you know of any thing that would have been the problem?
Im running winxp pro
Gigabyte 7vaxp with AMD 2600+ along with 640meg ddr 266mhz ram and two hard drives: western Digital 160gig 8 meg cache special edition and a maxtor 40 gig 2meg cache.

My opinion based on various reading material:

Dx9 is pretty much a beta for the upcoming Dx9.1. Basically, all the current Dx9 boards will also support (most of) Dx9.1.

Unless a Dx9 game comes out before Dx9.1 is released, I wouldn't install Dx9.

Thanks, I see your point and I most likely should do this same so I dont have to waste time figuring this all out.
I will keep DirectX9_redist just in case I can figure it out or DirectX 9.1 doesnt do any better.

Well I´ve had some freezes when playing game-demos, but that could be a number of reasons. Overall, I haven´t had many problems.

Where are you getting this stuff about DX9.1 from? I´m not trying to deny what you are saying, I´m just curious. What kind of new stuff would MS put in 9.1?

Just type "directx 9.1" into google (or something similar) There's a lot there. Let me know if you find anything new.

DX 9.0 sucks extremely large wang. Stick w/DX 8.1 until DX 9.1 comes out. DX 9.0 was hammering my TI 4200 and I didnt understand what the problem was till I uninstalled everything piece by piece. DX 9.0 also beat my ATI 9700 Pro AIW to death as well and that is a brand new top of the line card.

HULK SMASH!!!

Try reinstalling DX9 a couple of times. DirectX is known to have installation problems.

I got a 1200point 3dmark decrease from Direct X 9. But then reinstalled Direct x 8 and installed direct X 9 second time did the charm regained 1300 points. now doing 13,482 3dmarks from 11,789 when I first installed Direct 9.

someone one suggest u install it more than once they might be right. Or it might have been the order of which I did it.

direct x 8.1 to 8.2 then to direct X 9. And Video card drivers were already installed.
