i'm on XP and it's been a while since i've used 98se so your controls might be slightly different (or perhaps they changed with 42.01 cuz i'm on 41.09)
anyhow, i do right click on desktop -> properties -> settings -> advanced -> geforce 4, then on the menu that pops out to the left i choose "refresh rate override" from under the "Direct 3D settings" menu, which is under the Performance and Quality settings, once here you choose "override refresh rates" instead of "applications control refresh rate" and change the resolution(s) you use to whatever refresh rate you know your monitor can handle
tell me where our procedures differ...? (are you using the "monitor" tab instead of the geforce one, or do you not have these tabs at all...i don't remember 98 that well)
