Hi everyone
I upgraded my computer recently, the system is:
MSI KT3 Ultra2
AMD XP 2000+
Samsung 256MB Ram DDR 333Mhz
Sapphire Radeon8500 (LE or not? I'm not sure)
Maxtor30GB 7200RPM
SB Live

When I run 3Dmark2001, I got a mark of ~5500
is it normal? it seems a bit low, if so, what are the setting I should make?
hope people can tell me, thanks~

that does seem a little low, u should probly be getting in the 8000's 7s at least. are you using default 3dmark settings? do you have antialiasing or anisotropic filtering on?
make sure you dont have any programs running in the background either.

The first LAN party I went to was at a PETA convention. They booted me when I shot a crab in HL!

Right click on the desktop, then properties, click settings, then advanced- select your vidio card on the tab then select performance and quality settings.Mark sure antialiasing and anisotropic filtering are off.Be sure to uncheck the box beside Texture sharpening.(Set performance to aggresive if you have a slider for it)Next, select the Direct3D settings.Set MipMap Detail Level to- Best Performance.Set your desktop to 1024*768 32 bit.
MY SET UP
Gateway Athlon 750
384Mb cheap pc100 ram
Gainward Geforce4 4200(overclocked to 275/551)
I got 5520 marks in 3d2001 with a 297/601 overclock was unstable but still benched...P.S.-i knew nothing about overclocking untill i used the ExperTool that came with my card, it has simple slides that let you adjust the memory and the core clock settings. Look at 3dmark2001 under tailgunner42@hotmail.com or just type in 748Mhz in the processor i have the fastest 748Mhz athlon in the world MUHAHAHAH even beat geforce4 4600 and 4400 and all it took was a simple slide of the bar...try these things and post back

Thanks for your answer
I'm using Catalyst 3.0, could that be the problem?
Also, I found out that the core clock speed is 250Mhz, and the memory speed is 230Mhz, did I get a crappy Radeon8500?
or even with these speeds, ~5500 is still low?
I have check the benchmark of R8500LE in Tom's hardware guide, it gets around 7xxx, with 250/250 Mhz.

I will try Catalyst2.5
I've tried to overclock it to 275Mhz/250Mhz, but the result isn't much better, did I do wrong thing? or I should use other program to overclock, with what program?
When you said to disable Anisotropic Filtering and AA, should I check "Application Reference"?
Thanks for telling me, I will post new result as soon as possible.

That score is still low. I had a Radeon 8500LE on my system and it ran around 8500 non Overclocked.

Your score does seem quite low... I've got an XP1800+, 256mb DDR (266), SiS735 chipset with an 8500LE, got 7650 with 3Dmark on default without overclocking. It's not that high but my LE is built by ATI and runs at 230/230, so all things considered I'm quite happy...

I'm always getting mark around 5500, whether I use Catalyst2.5, or try to set the mip-mapping level or texture quality to "high Performance"
sth really weird, even I tried 3D mark 2000, I got ~5300, it's even lower than 3D mark2001
Could it be Bios setting?
Now I have no more Idea what to do...
Help me if anyone have idea.. ^^
