My friend is building a system but can't decide which vid card to get. Is the Crucial Radeon 8500 any good?
http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.asp?imodule=CTV8500LE128A6 Its a 128MB card for only 90 somthin bucks, so that sorta makes me suspicious...

DO NOT GET THE CRUCIAL ONE.It uses normal pc2700 166X2=333MHz memory rather than the proper video ram that is supposed to be 250X2=500MHz.Although you mustn't forget that the true speeds are only 166MHz and 250MHz respectively.

no matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd. :]

He wasn't asking about the 8500LE on tom's charts, he was asking about the Crucial 8500LE, a much slower version. Don't dare point him to those charts as they would be misleading, completely different perfomance.

No. I know as a fact Crucial only used 6ns memory on their 64MB 8500LE while everyone else was using 3.6ns or faster memory. So the card was extremely underclocked and not overclockable. I suggest you go to Newegg and read the user reviews. You'll find stuff like the Saphire 64MB 8500LE's mostly come with fast memory, while the 128MB version from the same company comes with 5ns memory. You'll be able to pick and choose, and come up with the fastest solution. 128MB won't help your performance, faster memory on the card will.
