I have some problem about my home PC. It has configuration of P4 1.7 Ghz, Intel Original 845 PT card, 40 GB hard disk drive, 256 MB DDR [ 266 Mhz ] ram, OS is Win 98 SE Direct X 8.1. I recently tried to upgrade my Graphics card from RIVA TNT2 M64 [ Perks make ] to Geforce 2 MX 400 [ Lancer make ]. My problem is that the new card is not giving full performance as given in your magzine. I checked with 3D marks SE demo version. It gets only 950 marks at 1024 x 768 , 32 bit colors. Where as my old TNT2 card gets 850 marks at 1024 x 768, 32 bit colors. Geforce 2 MX 400 should get 2700 3D marks. Please tell me what is the problem. I checked it on Athlon 1600+ PC, MSI VIA Kt 400, 256 MB DDR 266 Mhz, 40 GH 7200 RPM Hard Disk but the marks remains the same.

well for starters its not that a powerfull system, and the geforce 2 mx cards are directx 8 (but i know you can install directx 8.1 for the card.. it all works fine) with that config i would have said a geforce 3 ti 200/500 or even a low end geforce 4 ti 4200 would have been better to buy.. if you can find a downloadable demo of the older 3dmark 2000 program, as a guide my duron setups @ about 1ghz used to score about 5000 to 5500 points. with a faster cpu, you could see 6000 to possibly 6500.. it was sort of ment for those cards. the newer 3dmark 2001se is meant for the geforce 3's and ati 8500's and up..
otherwise i would say, drivers for the motherboard, graphics card, agp slot (on kg7 boards theres a agp port driver, it makes the world of difference..) things like that..
always remember when the guy at toms or wherever review graphics cards, they do use more powerfull system setups in order to get the best from the card they are reviewing.. if not it would be a waste of time reviewing a ati 9700 pro with a 800 mhz duron system..
also try a complete fresh reinstallation of windows, that always helps out.. gets rid of older drivers that could be still about etc.. just remember to backup your data before you do any formatting!
happy hunting!

if all else fails... kick it and if it goes wrong, say it wasnt you...
