Newegg and googlegear hardly have any GF4 Ti4600 cards anymore. Is there a reason for this? If anyone knows of any other sites that still have a decent selection of Ti4600's please let me know. Thanks in advance!!

My thought is that Nvidia is pulling them from the market so that they can push the Flamethrower, err I mean FX.

Well doesn't that suck. Pull a more than able card to give us a giant noise maker. I'm starting to dislike Nvidia. An ATI 9700 pro is backwards compatible with AGP 4x correct?

I would imagine it would have to be backwards-compatible with 4x.

I'd like to get one. I'm waiting for the price to drop to about $150, that's usually when I buy a new card. I don't think it's worth it to spend any more on a card.

Your right about that. Problem is my friend is building a system and asked for my input. I told him to go for the GF4 Ti4600 only to find out that there are only a few left on the market. I did see some Ti4800 cards which have AGP 8x. I believe these are the same as the Ti4600 cards with the only difference being the 8x. Not sure though. Got to surf a little more for some info.

I've been looking for geforce ti 4600 cards online. You're right, they're hard to find. I found a Verto and Albatron<A HREF="http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_attrib.php/page_id=5/topcat_search=1/form_keyword=geforce+4+ti/mode=premgoogle1/ut=8d9665c7ae1c7129" target="_new"> here</A> along some with 42, 44 and 4800's.
There's a Leadtek Winfast <A HREF="http://www.pc-beyond.com/index.htm" target="_new">here</A>.
PNY and Chaintech 4600's <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=&submit=Go&description=nvidia+geforce+ti+46" target="_new">here </A>.

I found a few more using Google. Retail boxed are few and far between. CompUSA had some Verto's in store at astronomical prices. Asylum and Verto - $299.99. XTasy - $399.99!!!!!
Ridiculous.
I found a Radeon 9700 Pro for $338.

I like the Gainward Power Pack Ultra 750 4800 but $220 is a little more than I want to spend right now.
*EDIT* The Gainward at Pricebrabber is sold by Googlegear. I didn't notice it's the "SE" model.
Maybe Nvidia will loosen up on the supply of 4600's and prices will drop after the FX launch.

I can live with my geforce 2 until then.

Ive seen a radeon 9700 pro for 299, www.tigerdirect.com

the 4800 is also clocked a little faster than the 4600, otherwise it wouldnt perform any better and noone would buy it. the 4200-8x is clocked faster than the normal 4200.

I dyed my body green, branded an "n" on my chest, and stood on a box in the middle of Time Square for 3 days shouting, "ATI is the Anti-Christ!" to boost sales after nVidia had a losing quarter.

The Ti4800 is replacing the Ti4600. The Ti4800SE is replacing the Ti4400. Both are the previous cards but with AGP 8X, nothing else. Mainly a marketing gimmick. Also, Gainward's card naming confuses me greatly... all the Golden Ultra Edition Power Pack 700/GXP VIVO XP/TV and all that stuff.
