If there was a twelfth class in DnD (Yes, I'm only considering the
version of DnD with eleven classes.) what would it be, and why?

A non-martial, non-spellcasting skills monkey. A PC-grade Expert. A
Daniel Jackson.
Either that or a spontaneous casting cloistered cleric.

Silveraxe.

Not a bad idea.

So basically a Favored Soul. It's appeared in more than one 3.5
splatbook. Not a bad idea either. This is the one I'd most like to
see core for a number of reasons.

The other two I'd like to see that are already published are Artificer
and Warlock. Although Warlock could just replace Sorcerer as far as
I'm concerned. The Artificer is possibly terribly overpowered
though... It'd need some fixing.

The Dragonlance sourcebook War of the Lance has a core PC class called the
Master that fulfills that role nicely. Daniel Jackson would make fine
Master with the primary focus of sage in that class. The class has four
main sub-flavors: Craftsman (Craft skill), Performer (Perform skill),
Professional (Profession skill), and Sage (Knowledge and linguist skills).

The artificer isn't overpowered if used with the errata.

Thinking about other d20 or OGL games, you see the specialist light-fighter a la
the unfettered from Arcana Evolved, though I wouldn't want to use the
swashbuckler from Complete Warrior.

Other popular choices are a noble/courtier class, but I personally think it's
not a good core concept.

What about a light fighter with many fast attacks? (Say, light armor
only, a flurry of blows-effect with 1-handed weapons or so, full BAB,
d10 hp and a general mobile fighter build?)

It's called a Ranger, with a few Rogue levels as desired, or you
can fake it with a high Str/Con Monk. I actually rather like the look of
the Scout from C.Adv for that role too, even if it's not very good.

I'd like a non-mystical martial artist. Something along the lines of
Hong's take on it:

Psi Warrior, because the XPsi feats, powers, and general kewlness
really belong in the game, and the Psion is too similar to the other d4
boys.

I was thinking of making a magic user who used magic different
altogether. Though I don't want to exlpain the details until my new MUD
is ready, I will tell you this: Magic will never be the same once I add
this character to one of the twelve base classes.
