possible, the max Payne engine is used in 3dmark2001 which is a Dx8 benchmarker...

Hmmm, wonder if I can get a valid page fault ???
these invalid ones are far too commonplace...

BUT! Running 3dMark 2001 with a DirectX 7 only compatible video card will still let you run the Max Payne tests. Only the Nature test in 3Dmark 2001 requires DirectX 8 video card...so I would say that Max Payne probably doesn't have any DirectX 8 features.

"Hey!! Who's that hiding behind the bush??!...Well Wingding of course!"

That means nothing, I play DX8 games on my DX7 card all the time! You loose a few visual features that way, but they still play!

i believe max payne uses more effiecient rendering found in DX8 (i think), but doesnt use any DX8 effects so thats why DX7 cards can run it in that mode as well
