I was logged on a Win2k node today with administrative privliges. Even with these admin rights i was not given permission to add/remomve hardware and some other computer management features. I talked to a tech and he said that there is nothing that can be done other than backing up and reinstalling the os because the administrative policies became corrupt at some point. Does anyone have any other advice on the subject?

Were you trying to do the Add/Remove stuff on the machine you were logged into or do it remotely?

If it was on the local machine, try logging off the network first. I've occasionally run into problems dumping old drivers and such when I the network is active...

If you were trying to do it remotely.. then your system security worked as it should.

Also, it sometimes helps to log in as "Administrator" which is a reserved account with it's own password. Although MS doesn't exactly tell you this, you do get extra priveledges from that account.
