This is from a review of the ATi 9700Pro at Anandtech......

"While it is true that the Radeon 9700 Pro is probably the best card out right now for Doom III, there will be something faster and cheaper closer to the time Doom III is released."

I want Doom 3 and I want a new graphics card to replace my GF3Ti200.

So, if the 9700Pro was around £350 at release, does that mean when Doom 3 is out, there will be a graphics card that is cheaper and better than the 9700Pro? I find it hard to believe since Doom 3 is out at, I think, the end of March.

And what will be this graphics card? The Geforce FX? That will always be more expensive than the 9700Pro.

Doom3 is scheduled to be released in 2003. That means the end of the year.

So he's still on track in his prediction. Doom wont be around for at least another 7-8 months.

ATI will have a 9800 series before then that will be a basic technology upgrade of the 9700 Pro (the core name R350 as opposed to R300). It will probably be expensive, but should push the 9700 Pro down to around $200.
