Not useless - It's just that many people seem to misunderstand: They're a guideline and not a benchmark. It measures entire subsections, rather than the speed of individual components. And it was not created as the means to benchmark specialized hardware/software apps (like SLI).
If you want a general guideline as to how your computer should perform in a general manner, then WEI works perfectly. If you want a number for your e-Peen, then you'd be best served with a dedicated benchmark.
