I was browsing 3D mark 2001 scores, an found that on similar setups to mine, they were able to get over 4000 3d marks. I consistantly get 2640's. The most notable difference was in the vertex shader test. they were able to get about 20-30 FPS compared to my 3. I was curious as to go about getting an increase in this.(I thought the MX series didm't have a vertex shader.) Any help for overclocking would be helpful also. Thanks

They don't have vertex shaders. It's emulated by the cpu. That score does seem low. My geforce2 GTS gets 3800. I've got a 1.5 ghz p4 with pc800 rdram.

I agree in thinking that it is a low score. I have an AMD Athlon (T-Bird) @ 1.3GHz and 200Mhz FSB and 512MB of PC100 RAM(since FSB is 100MHz DDR my non-DDR memory is running at 100MHz correct?) Soundblaster Audigy for sound. Maxtor 60Gb ATA133 HDD @7200RPM w/ 2MB cache and Windows ME. Any suggestions to increase the speed(and how to actually do it?) Any help is appreciated. Thanks. I am not biased towards AMD or Nvidia my name come from the actual hardware in my computer.

Actually your scores are fairly good! You see, you're running PC100, which hurts you greatly (3DMark 2001 is very memory dependant). Your're running a 100MHz bus CPU (DDR200 bus). You're running ME. And your card sux. I get only 3600 on a Celeron 1100@1466 using a Radeon LE that's only 2 years old, much newer than the MX420 (a rebadged GeForce2 MX, no?).

Out of all the MX series the 420 is the worst. Don't worry about your score if you're happy with how your computer performs. If you're not happy with it looks like you'll be getting a new mobo/Ram/Cpu/Video Card. That way you can sell your current setup and recover some cash. With a new system you'll probably have to get a new PS too.

I have plans on getting a new system, but I have some work to do to my car first. I am on a limited budget and was thinking about getting a setup with a Radeon 9500Pro, AMD Athlon 2100+ and using the existing hard drive and Cdrw/DVD drives i currently have and using this computer as part of a small home network for games like unreal tournament. Any recommendation on mobo, powersupply, and case? Thnaks

I use a Turbo Gamer Case http://www.ntcw.com/ that I got without a Power Supply. I have a 350W Enermax PS (I would get a 400W+ now any Name brand stay away from Generic ones).

As for a mobo I have the Gigabyte 7VRXP but it won't support the new 333 FSB processors. Look around and choose based on reliability and options that you need (ie Raid controller, onboard Lan, USB 2.0, Serial ATA). I'm sure someeone here can recommend a good mobo for you as mine is yesterday's news LOL.
