So I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10 on my laptop. I stopped using Ubuntu so I jsut delete the partition from Disk Management in Windows 7. I kinda had a bad feeling about it but I didint think much. So I reboot my laptop and the Grub read error code 22 no partition. FML!! Thing is, I have a 6 page history essay in MY DOCUMENTS in windows 7 and I need to finish it for Friday. I know my stuff is there because I tried using the windows 7 CD and the Windows partition is still there. but all the ubuntu stuff is delete. So why is GRUB still loading? I assumed it would of went straight to Windows 7. Point is, I NEED TO GET MY ESSAY. T

I did a startup fix from the widnows 7 but it didint do anything. It still booted from GRUB. I have a ubuntu 9.10 CD somewhere..but I would have to dig for it. I am realy stressed and I hope I can retrerive my essay. What if I reinstall windows without reformating and acces my essay from Windows.old. Will this work? Or do I have to reformat to get Windows working again.

PLEASE HELP!!!

ozzma, first priority is to get the essay. I would boot with a Linux Live CD and copy the file(s) to a safe place (DVD, external HD). Knoppix should work: http://www.knoppix.com/

Or remove the drive from this computer, plug it on another one, access it and copy the files.

Then follow these instructions to solve your problem: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/20864-mbr-restore-windows-7-master-boot-record.html

Last resort would be to install Windows 7 on a different partition and then try to access the files from there. This is a longer shot, I don't have access to my Win7 computer right now to be able to tell if you can do it.

Good luck. let me know if any doubt or if no success.
Always backup....
