Hi,

I would like to upgrade my graphiccard because the fan will not last much longer and it is not worthwile to replace the fan. Can anyone give me some advice?

My pc:

ASUS K7M v1.04
384 MB Ram
Firewire
Elsa Erazor TNT2 pro
Seagate ST380021A 80 GB
Quantum Firebal KX 13,6 GB
Dawicontrol DC-2975
Yamaha 6416S CDRW

My biggest concern is the chipset: AMD-751 northbridge and VIA 686A southbridge. Supposedly it is AGP 1.0 compliant and should be able to work with AGP 2x speeds with a voltage of 3.3 volts. But after checking the www I read that the majority of the owner of this chipset are able to work with agp 1x only.

I am interested in ATI Radeon cards (8500 or 9100) but is not a must.

Who can help me out?

Thanks!

A few years back,i bought a Hercules 3d Prophet geforce256 and couldn't get it to work in a 1.0 compliant board either.Called tech support and he said it had to be a 2.0 compliant motherboard.I looked at the system requirements on the side of the box and it did say AGP 2.0 compliant slot.I think Crashman says it does work though,so maybe he can help you out.The 8500 would be a good card to get though.

given that a 8500 is a 9100, it could be easy to pick between them...

as to it being 3.3v, I dunno, think 1.5v is what the 8500/9100 runs with... not too sure though... doublecheck the spec of the card & see what voltages the card will run at

Hmmm, wonder if I can get a valid page fault ???
these invalid ones are far too commonplace...

Tom's did their CPU guide using the LATEST card (ATI Radeon 9700 Pro) on the OLDEST AGP boards (including tests with a Pentium 166MMX on an MVP3). No problems. ATI cards are backwards compatable. As for the 8500 and 9100...
The 9100 is the 8500LE. It's the same chip and the same clock rate. Watch out for the 128MB versions as they are usually clocked much slower than the 64MB versions and use inferior memory components! This applies to both the 8500LE and the 9100!
