Hi, like the title says im thinking about getting a pc for gaming (mostly skyrim and maybe BF3) The problem is i know next to nothing about Psu's, graphics cards, motherboard's and all that kind of stuff.

Im looking to spend around 350-400£ (if it's possible to get a gaming pc for that much) so any help would be appreciated.

More about : run skyrim

Hi :)

Not enough money for a GAMING pc...double your budget as you NEED to spend around £250 on the graphics card ALONE ...

All the best Brett :)

£250 on a graphics card? for BF3 and skyrim? you're crazy. if you increase your budget to around £500 you could get a fx 6300 or a i3 and a 7870 and you will be able to run most games on high.

So this build woud run skyrim and BF3? also is it hard to put all of these components together i have never built a pc before.

this machine will blast skyrim and BF3. building a computer is easy in my opinion, i suggest watching a couple of videos on YouTube before you build and make sure you know what you are dealing with.

Hope your build goes well and all the best

Hi :)

Umm if he has no pc ..he also needs windows 7 plus monitor/keyboard/mouse etc....(those would cost him nearly £200 alone)

Hes NOT going to be playing BF3 on Ultra for £500....

All the best Brett :)

Another thing, is make sure you search around for the best price.
places i would recommend would be....
Ebuyer
Scan
Aria
Dabs
etc
I usually buy the most important stuff from one site (motherboard, Ram, CPU, GPU)
and buy all the other stuff from places that have what I'm looking for and the best deals

He never said play on ultra, the card and CPU will max out skyrim and be able to play BF3 on high settings.

Get a GTX 660 from scan for £166, it and the 7870 seem to trade blows. Furthermore it can run BF3 on ultra at 1080p, with 50+fps 90% of the time.

Maybe drop down to an i3 for £90, because MSI sells a motherboard for £30.

Could shave off a couple of quid on the Case and lower the wattage of the PSU to save more money.
My version (all from scan.co.uk)
Case: Silverstone Precision PS05B £35
PSU: 450W XFX Pro Core Edition P1-450S-X2B9 (80+ Bronze) £35
CPU: i3 2120 £90
GPU: MSI GTX660 twin frozr III £166 (plus you get AC3 free)
Mobo: MSI H61M-P25 £32
HDD: 500GB Western Digital Caviar Blue £45
DVD: LiteOn 24x £13

Total of £428

Then whatever you can spare on monitor, speakers, keyboard+mouse.

If you are moving on from your xbox360 then you could consider selling it and maybe even the TV for some more money.

Either build will be able to play both games, you should explore a bit more and see what you actually need

Would i need to buy Corsair value 133mhz (8gb) <this aswell?
December 4, 2012 3:20:24 PM

yeah, you always need ram
December 4, 2012 3:21:57 PM

FYI its 1333mhz not 133 :)
December 4, 2012 11:34:14 PM

I knew i was missing something. Yeah you need ram.
December 5, 2012 12:26:50 AM

One last thing , is 450W enough for the PCU or should i get one with a bit more?

EDIT: Oh and where does it say you get AC3 for free when you buy the GPU?

EDIT2: never mind i found it.
December 5, 2012 5:32:47 AM

If you look on at the graphics card description it should say what minimum wattage you would need.

I couldn't find the minimum wattage but it said the graphics card itself had 2 fans that produce 150w so would that count to the 450w to give me 600?
December 5, 2012 3:26:21 PM

Personally i would be on the safe side and go with a 600w, but its up to you. You may be able to get away with a 430w
December 5, 2012 3:59:27 PM

Yeah i probably will do, would the one you recommended be alright?

And could this pc run mods (on skyrim)?
December 5, 2012 4:10:24 PM

yep, the one i recommended is the one I'm using now, Here are the bench marks for the graphics card which include Skyrim. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548
FYI the benches use something like a i7 so take around 10-20 fps off and also they are on ultra and very high
December 5, 2012 6:08:42 PM

Ok so this will be my build is it all compatible and do i need anything else?

PS: Corsair Builder 600W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V
RAM: Corsair value 133mhz (8gb)
December 5, 2012 7:35:08 PM

Yep that's compatible, FYI its 1333mhz :)
December 5, 2012 8:31:18 PM
