My friend computer is using win98 sec. Recently, he can't get on hotmail. But he is able to get to other websites. Does anyone know how to fix it. I havn't look at his computer yet, but I do run into a lot of problem related to this issue. For example, Modem is connected to the internet or ISP, but Internet Explorer will not recognize the connnection. How do I fix this problem.

Perhaps deleting the Temporary Internet Files would help. You could also try deleting the Hotmail cookie and/or cleaning out the History folder.

As for the browser issue, you could run the Internet Connection Wizard, to make sure the browser knows which connection to use.

All of these tools are available in the browser under Tools/Internet Options. There's also a section under the Temporary Internet Files/Settings, which specifies how often the browser looks for newer version of pages on the 'Net, and this can be manually changed.

Try some of these things, and see what kind of results you get. If none of it works, come on back, and we'll try something else.

See if he can visit secure sites, like <A HREF="http://https://www.verisign.com" target="_new">http://https://www.verisign.com&lt;/A>. Make sure he has the content and privacy tabs in Internet Options set to default. Under advanced, in the security section, make sure "Use SSL 2.0", "Use SSL 3.0", and "Use TLS 1.0" are all checked. Give that a shot.
