Radeon 9700 problems

I bought a Club3D Radeon 9700 (not pro) graphics card and I'm having several problems with it. First of all when I downloaded and installed the Catalyst 3.1 none of the programs and games could detect my card and Windows graphics became very slow. I also installed DirectX 9, but it didn't help. When I installed the drivers that came with the card it worked normally. Can anyone help me? (I have ASUS A7A266 motherboard, ~400mb ram and Athlon XP 1800+ processor + windows XP.) I also wonder that is the card really made by Club3D because I bought it as bulk and there are no markings on the card or on the CD that came with it. How can I check the manufacturer. I would also appreciate if someone could enlighten me with some overclocking tips. Are there some programs made for this. My email adress is ville.ponka@helsinki.fi and all help is wellcome.
