Hi. I'm about to buy one of these two cards, both with 64mb.
I can get the 4200ti 130 USD and the 8500 for 100.
(those are the prizes for my country)
So, what do ya think, wich one should I get.

In terms of raw performance Ti4200 is better ... but 8500 is cheaper and some pluses, like the ability to support a TV and a monitor at the same time. I think they are more or less balance on what you get for what you pay.

Also look THG graphics for these cards to get an idea of performance.

Where are you from?

I dont care about the two its for a gaming point, and the more I care is about performance, the thing is I have to buy lots of cards and 30 Usd turns out to be a lot of money, I want to know if its really worth it.

In the future where PS1.4 is more frequently used (like DOOM III), the 8500 is bound to perform as or better than the Ti4200. It's a safer investment for the future, believe it or not.
In normal uses, it has been spotted once or twice performing like a Ti4200, but it usually has Ti500 performance, so about 15% less performance.
The price IMO is worth it.

Man....I have an 8500, and I love it to death...but the Ti4200 is awfully good. For me..it came down to price as usual....

I've owned both in the 128mb versions. I kept the Ti for raw power and driver stability (on my system others will argue...). The Radeon seemed sharper and brighter in both 2d and 3d.

If you are only going to use it for gaming go with the 4200 but not by gainward cause you will get screwed. If you wont be able to get a new card anytime soon wait for the new stuff to come out and take advantage of the price drops.

This might help a little:

For the same price a month from now a 9500 PRO may be within your clutches. Or possibly a 4200 8x or a 4800. All quality but keep in mind that new games are starting to move to DX9.

HULK SMASH!!!

Well, as you know, these are Alpha results. Relatively unoptimized. Chances are the use of PS 1.4 is minimal, if not disabled!
Carmack has expressed alot of interest in the ATi side because of their use of PS 1.4, and I am pretty sure if we waited for the full version, the 8500 might take a huge jump above the Ti500 AT LEAST.

I noticed they didn't bother to put the 9500PRO somewhere, which is rather sad.

"Or possibly a 4200 8x"

Its been prooven that on those cards, the 8x is more an advertising gimmic than anything else...

I don't know about the 128 MB memory (will prolly be useful), but the AGP 8x wont...

Athlon XP 1600+, MSI K7T PRO2 RU (POS), 2x256 MB CRUCIAL PC2100 CL2.5 memory, Asus V6800 DDR Delux (GF 256) video card, 6.4GB+27GB WD HD, 40GB IBM HD (all 7200RPM). My computer is an acronym

I have the R8500 64 MB, and I love it. For $30 less the Radeon is the better deal, IMO. The 4200 will perform somewhat better in games, but the image quality is better on the 8500, especially the 2D and DVD playback.

If you don't ABSOLUTELY need a new card now, prices should drop in the next 4-6 weeks. You might want to wait.

I've said it many times, and I wish I could believe that, but, it doesn't seem like price drops are forecasted any soon, due to the fact ATi's next competitive move is to simply replace the product line and remain with the same prices, rather than add new ones and lower the current line.

Should I invest in an 8500 if I am expecting to change my rig into a multimedia server(think; that killer little rig from alienware with all the nice bells and whistles, just bigger)in another year or so? I'm playing some games but super fast framerates aren't too important too me. I want a card that has a tv out and tight graphics and will be good for another couple of years. My main concern is that I'll be wasting good money on something that I won't get enough use of(like when I bought my gfarce2 card last year). Anyone have any input on this? Thanks for any help.
