ok, my vid card died. it was an old geforece 2 32mb. it was the oldest componant in my comp. but now i need a new one, i dont ahve alot to spend so i was wondering if one of the mx series would work. or should i go with like a gf3 ti500? i heard they were decent.
Ditto on the Radeon 8500 (Also known as the Radeon 9100 now, but it's exactly the same).
Best card for the money, hands down.
Next to that, Radeon 9000s are pretty good and very cheap.
Stay away from any Geforce MX. They have no DirectX 8 support, and you'll miss out on alot of cool visual effects, plus they get battered in upcoming DX8 games like
Doom3.
another vote for the 8500. The GF3 Ti500 is another good option if it's cheaper than the 8500. Stay away from any MX series card unless you're a very casual gamer (as in Hoyle's Board Games...).
The aim of military training is not just to prepare men for battle, but to make them long for it. <A HREF="http://forums.btvillarin.com/index.php?act=ST&f=41&t=327&s" target="_new"><b>MY SYSTEM</b></A>
I would go with the 9500. It can over clock very nicely to work just as well as the 9700 (not pro) then with some better cooling i can get my to get close to the 9700 Pro. PLus dx 9 is fully supported.

Ummm Cleve....the 9100 is NOT the exact same card as the 8500. It's clocked lower, has weaker memory, and a missing ramdac. There is a substantial performance difference.

Maybe different specs, but exact same GPU with the same features.
The 9100 is clocked the same as an 8500LE, from what I understand... plus, it depends on the manufacturer. I've seen people with both high and low clocked 9100s at the Rage3d forums.
The second RAMDAC doesn't have any effect at all on performance.
