Just built myself my dream computer "for gaming"
& guess what...I can do anything exept play games!

Every time I start a game, (graphics looks realy good BTW) I can play 2 min. Max then it crashes back to the desktop. Every time.

I tried 3DMark 2001 SE - crashed
C&C Generals - crashed
Splinted Cell - crashed
Battlefield 1942 - crashed
Soldier of fortune 2 - crashed

Here are my system specs:

AMD 2700xp
Asus A7N8X Deluxe – Latest Nforce Drivers (v1.16) installed!
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro Retail – Catalyst 3.2 installed!
2-512mg Crucial PC2700 Ram
80GB, 7200rpm Western digital Hard drive
SoundBlaser Audigy 2 – Latest drivers installed!
Antec 330W True Power Power Supply
Xaser 5000a plus case (w/ 5 case fans)
56 Aopen CD-Rom
19" Viewsonic GS790 monitor
OS: WinXP Pro
Bios: Latest 1.002a
DirectX 9.0 Installed

I doubled check my 2nd power cable, it's hooked up OK.

Send in you comments PLEASE, Thanks in advance,

Maiden's gonna get y'a!

well the problem seems pretty obvious to me. The radeon 9700 requires a 350W PSU, your a few short unfortinatly. That would be my guess.

"What kind of idiot are you?"
"I don't know, what kinds are there?"

I ran my 9700 pro on a 300w psu and the problems only occured during windows bootup or driver updates, games actually ran as good as they do now with my 550w psu, could be an other problem but its worth a go with a better psu. What are your temps upon exit to desktop? Over heating is a possibility also.

Yeah, I thought about overheating myself, I'll check if the Radeon fan is actually working when I get home tonight...

What do you mean when you say what are your "temps" upon exit to Windows??

If the game crashes to the desktop, use sandra to check cpu temps, if its 70 or something daft then that may be why ur crashing.

Could be CPU, MB, RAM, or PS.
Try to increase CPU Voltage and see if helps.
Be sure to have latest MB BIOS.
Run Memtest86 to test RAM.
Try HIGH QUALITY power supply, 350W or greater.

90% chance its your PSU, but before you replace it pull out 1 stick of ram and see what happens

1 stick of Crucial PC2700 512mg was the problem.

C&C Generals Rocks! Incredible graphics!

I tried 3DKark001se (froze) twice!

I scored 4567 3DMarks! Don't know if thats good!

Anyway Thanks all for your help!!!

I have the EXACT problem with my Radeon 9700 Pro that I got just a week ago.... Am using 2X256 pc3200. No voltage adjustments to anything. 400W PSU

It's probably something to do with the RAM not being able to run Dual Channel very well.. Well glad you got your problem fixed, but you'll have less performance without the Dual Channel you know?

...And all the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put my computer back together again...

Just a bad stick, I removed 1 stick, tested the other one, had the same problem, removed it, put the other in and "voila". I'll have it replaced tomorrow!

Chuck?? What's the "dual channel" thing?
