Hey all im new here. I just ordered a Sapphire 9700 Pro from newegg.com And i was wondering if it will work ok with my system i have a 300 watt psu. And i didnt know if that would be enough my system specs are.
Athlon xp 1700+
300 watt psu
I was just wondering cause my psu went out recently and i bought another and it suck to have to buy another one so soon =( any imput is appreciated thx alot!
You might be able to. It depends on the PSU. Not all PSU's are made the same so 300 PSU A might be very different than 300W PSU B.
I would try it and if you have a problem, buy a new PSU. Buy a 350W or a 400W though.
The real problem though is that besides the computer just not starting up, a weak PSU can cause random issues that will drive you crazy. People always undervalue the PSU. It's important if you want a stable system.
What brand do you have? If it's Antec or Enermax you probably have a much better chance than if you have a generic no-name PSU.
let me ask you guys the same exact question.
im planning on getting a 9800 pro (this one ati recommends a 350, right?)
my system specs r
512 corsair xms 3200
2 cd drives 1 hard drive
6 case fans (not including psu, which has 2) and an 80mm vantec tornado.
i have a 350 W power supply, its an HEC, i bought my case (antec sx1030) from directron.com and this was a $22 upgrade from the 300W antec. so far its been good to me. the difference will be the 80mm 5700rpm tornado (right now im using a 80mm case fan ~2000-2200rpm) and the 9800 pro (right now using a ti4400)
think everything 'll work good?
when i get the new vid card and sell mine ill have $ for a power supply, i think ill get a 450W, but there might be some in between time where i have to use the 350.
