Hi! recently i have purchased a (chaintech Geforce4 MX-440 128 MB DDR 4X) graphic card it says in the manual that it supports DirectX 8 and 8.1. So, i downloaded the new 3DMARK 2003 to test its performance. But at the start it gave me error that only one game can run cause of some hardware is not found on the graphic card. ok i got in than i clicked on the demo and i got really upset by reading the error again, the error was (YOU NEED ATLEAST A DX8 COMPLIANT GRAPHICS ADAPTER WITH PIXEL SHADER and soo on) The thing amazed me that my graphics card doesnt support DX8 than why doesnt its written on the manual.

what might be the problem is it true that the card is not DX8 compliant or is there some driver problem. what should i do??????????????????

The MX cards are really scaled down cards. They're really lousy.

I thought they were 8.1 compliant (<A HREF="http://www.nvidia.com/docs/lo/1468/SUPP/PO_GeForce4_MX_92502.pdf" target="_new">http://www.nvidia.com/docs/lo/1468/SUPP/PO_GeForce4_MX_92502.pdf</A>) though.

What drivers are you using? Only use WHQL certified drivers. Try the Detonators that were released in November or go back to the 3x.xx drivers.

The GF4MX-440 does not support a hell of a lot. Think of a Ti to an MX as a P4 to a Celeron; you get what you pay for.

With that card, don't expect very nice scores at all. IMO, the MX series is a pile of donkey feces. But hey, what do I know....

What should you do? Get a real video card.

don't you guys thing you are being a little harsh on the guy, many people don't have $170 that they are willing to spend on a graphics card. My best guess is that you need to update drivers (like previously stated)

Yeah, but you can't get a Cavalier and expect Porsche-grade performance.

The MX440 is a slightly modified GeForce2 GTS, which was a Direct X 7 card. It might support a feature from DX8, but being DX8 compatable does not mean it has DX8 features (my old DX7 card has a couple DX8 features, but works with DX9 installed, without access to the new features).

I'm pretty sure what Nvidia meant was that it was software Directx 8.1 compatible. That means that the card will process hardware intructions that are Directx 7 but if you run DirectX 8.1 it can only simulate certain aspects but it will not cause any errors.
