Well Dr. Tom that is pretty impressive. You shouldn't underestimate your ability(or that of other sites) to reach many of the other non-techies as you stated. Its only a matter of time.

This is why: The people(enthusiests etc.) that frequent these pages usually are the same people that are asked about computer related issues(i.e. purchases, upgrades) by people that do not know that much about computers(general public)

The Trickle down effect:
So if I recommend an AMD system to 2 people(ususally on a daily basis), they may buy AMD computers because of my expertise(word of mouth-much more effective than advertising)). They will be quite happy with their purchase(in most cases) and when asked by there friends about what computer to buy they will say AMD and so it goes on and on.

As you can tell on your forum, that is if you even read posts on the forum, that most people are recommending AMD systems.

So thanks to the internet(age of enlightenment) and sites like yours, people who want to can become much more educated about computers. They can then pass on their knowledge to less able persons. No manner of marketing muscle will change a persons view if they know better.

Unfortunately it takes a while for the message to get around but when it does it creates long lasting results. For example look at what Dell has accomplished by this method- I remember it was not long ago when a PC had to be made by IBM to be called a PC-Not anymore.

Packard Bell are still going, Acer should just close and never make pc's ever again

yep the only thing I have ever seen from acer that is any good is a monitor and that's just badged....as for packard bell i don't think we have to even start on that subject do we.....

Packard Bell was bought out by NEC which still makes computers, I think. So I guess you could say they are still around.
Compaq was just this month passed by Dell as the number one computer seller. It has nothing to do with quality. It has to do with the fact that they are in every computer-related store like Best Buy, Office Depot, CompUSA, and even RadioShack. And in general, older people (over the age of 30) didn't like to buy off the internet or from an ad in a magazine.
When my parents asked my advice on what computer to buy, I told them Dell, but they were very uneasy about it, they wanted to get a computer (like Compaq or HP) from the local store that they could see first hand and take home with them right away. This is the reason compaq has stayed ahead for so long. Only now are things changing because more people are getting comfortable buying off the internet.
Also, most business, 5 years ago and earlier, bought Compaq. I remember going through old junk rooms here at work and seeing all these old Compaqs.

Wasn't it just a little while ago when fugger called you out because of your remarks? Don't use me as a scapegoat for your own actions.

If you would read this thread thoroughly you would see that the person who started really flaming is none other than Lord. I just responded in kind.

I do start them sometimes. I do not deny(refer to my earlier post as to why) that but in this case it was started by it.

I'm not going to argue that the Compaq's equiped with DEC stuff is crap. I'm primarily talking about their little crapola 667mhz value computers. What the hell did Compaq do before they aquired DEC?!

I saw a pair of crusty DEC servers the other day- they were running an automated robot courier system in a hospital- it was pretty cool. These suckers were old but still kickin.

AMD has many things they invented first, were as Intel has many things they didn't invent but they are using. OK, wanna know the real reason Intel has the ability to buy out everyone and come out with the neat little interfaces and gadgets we all could not live without. ADVERTISING TO SIMPLETONS. Thats right! I see it all the time! This guy I work with says to me "I just got a great system man! A Compaq Presario w/Intel Celery processor!" And yes he actually said celery. This from a guy who thinks the entire PC tower is the modem. Awfully big modem. I believe if more than half the ppl who own PCs were somewhat computer literate, AMD would be doing much better than they are now.
