Stay away from the MX series. For the same cash get a Radeon 8500. If you can afford it get a GF4 Ti 4200 and if you can spare a little more money get a Radeon 9500 Pro. Remember to spend as much as you can now so you won't have to upgrade again in a month.

NEVER buy a GeForce4 MX, even if it's 128 MB. And it's 128 MB SDR..., a GeForce2 GTS will outperform it.

I'm getting the idea that I shouldn't buy an MX. The problem is: A buddy gave me a case, P4, 120GB HD, burner, 1 GB RAM, etc. AND the GeForce4 MX 440SE w/ 128 MB to put together for him running Win2000 professional. He only paid $59.99 for the card new at Fry's Electronics (area discount store). If I go ahead and install all of his stuff, will the AGP cause him grief under normal use?? I get the impression that it is a 1.5v card and won't blow up the M/B. Should he take it back and pay more for something better or is this OK for the $$ he paid??

This card won't hurt the mobo. But this card definately has a very poor price/performance ratio. For $85, you can get a 64 MB Radeon 8500LE (250/250 clocked) or a 64 MB Radeon 9100. Both will be 3x faster than this card. If he wants to spend little less, then buy a Radeon 9000 (non-Pro). This shouold caost around $70 and also much better than this card. Beware of 128 MB Radeon 8500LE's. They have much slowe memory than the 64 MB R8500LE

Keep in mind-- Megabyte is nothing.
