ASUS U52F won't turn on

My daughter has an ASUS U52F laptop. I flashed the BIOS from version 206 to version 211. Rebooted fine and was working fine. When the battery drained down to about 46% the computer shutdown. Plugged in AC adapter, press the power button and only the power light lights up. There is no other response.

Removed battery, plugged in AC, press power button, power led lights, no other response.

Removed RAM, HDD, and battery. Same as above.

There are no beeps at any time. During a normal boot before converting the laptop to a dimly glowing brick it didn't beep either.

Any suggestions for recovery?

It seems unlikely to be related to the BIOS update, since you successfully booted after it, but since nothing else changed, maybe it didn't went down perfect after all.

If you can't get any life signs apart from the power led, and no other idea remains, you might want to try a BIOS recovery.

BIOS recovery usually involves copying the bios firmware file to an USB flash drive, or CD, putting it in, and starting the computer without the battery while pressing down a special key combination on the keyboard.

You should research the exact method for your machine. There goes my extra mile for you

Where would I start? First, finding out what type of BIOS you have. Based on this:

I gather that your machine have an "Insyde" type bios.

Basically you need to know first, what should you rename your bios file to. For shortness sake, it's: "U52F.bin" (See the description below, how did I go for finding it out.)

Now I see only one thing which may vary depending on machine type: the keyboard combination. The description says Windows button + B. Maybe it'll work for you.

Now, I downloaded this file, extracted, and run the PhoenixTool.exe. A window came up, I browsed for the bios file which I downloaded from ASUS's site for A52F, it's named U52FAS.211 after extraction. Then I pressed the Go button, and after a while, a dialog window popped up, telling me: "Recovery filenames are: U52F.bin".

The BIOS recovery using the method you described got the machine up and running again. Thanks a million for going the extra mile!

I did use version 207 to get as close to the original as possible to start with. The laptop only responded with the USB flash drive in the USB port on the right side of the machine next to the optical drive and ethernet port. Naturally I tried all of the other ports first. I used the Windows button + B key. A reminder by my local guru to put the RAM back in had the machine booting up and running. It did boot to the splash screen and immediately reboot, but has been running since then.

Thanks for your help. Once I get a decent backup , I may be back to address the original problem that got me into this mess.

Hello i have the same probleme with my Asus X55VD-SX046H and refered to that (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/printthread.php?t=5863&pp=10&page=3895) I knew that I have a AMI BIOS type.

The probleme is when i follow the instructions (ex:http://www.biosman.com/biosrecovery.html) and rename my latest version of bios file X55VDRAS.405 to AMIBOOT.ROM and past it in a usb floppy and and..

Nothing happens, there is no biip, there nothing.

Need some help please.
