So, my roomate and I are each going to be building systems in the coming week. This is our idea for the setup, any suggestions?

Asus A7V133 (or whatever, its their nice mobo with Raid)-155
RAM 256(crucial, cas2) 118
Card ATI Raedon DDr 32MB 100
ATI Thunderbird 850 103
Case- not sure which one yet, 50
HSF 30
Mouseman + Win95 keyboard 40

I'm not sure what case to get yet... 300Watts, 3- 5 1/4 drives, etc... I'm loking for amidtower... anyway, what looks good, what looks bad.. know where I can get anything better or cheaper at?

I appreciate your help

I would change this:

Card ATI Raedon DDr 32MB 100 --> Hercules Geforce 2 Pro (64 MB)
Mouseman Wheel (?) --> Cordless Wheel Mouse (Logitech)
And the power should be 300w or better if you are going with an Athlon!

Check out http://www.compute-aid.com/ specifically this case https://www.compute-aid.com/atxm320k.html add a 300 watt power supply for 19 bucks. They have their own line of cases that aren't as roomey as some, but are still more than adaquate, you can add a 300 watt power supply for barely anything and they work on athlons- I know 'cause I've used them for quite a few systems. The cases are also pretty cheap. anyway- it's not the case I have on my computer now, but I bought mine long ago before I knew the glories of such companies and pricewatch.

Looks good. Although I agree with Kaos Kid, you might want to change that Radeon to a GF2 PRO (it will be considerably higher in price, of course). Also whats up with the Win95 keyboard? Get the Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro or whatever, the $50 one. It's the only good thing microcrap makes.

also look into a DVD drive, it would be sweet for you and your roomate to be able to watch the matrix and stuff.

No way! Get a Logitech cordless itouch for $60. It is so cool to be typing wirelessly. I can type on the john with my pc in the room next to it!

thanks.... I have a DVD in my pIII450 and a burner as well.. like I said, this a "fun" system.. fun in meaning I am building it for the fun of it, not because In eccesarily need it... my roomate can always use something better than this laptop anyway..... I thought the Radeon Checked out pretty well on some reviews recently.. I saw some at hardocp or something... in 32 bit color mode they match or beat the GTS... and 60 frames a second at 1200+ resolution is plenty for me...

thanks for the advice peeps..

cordless mouse, cordless keyboard, but to enjoyed them at

Its been awhile since I've posted seeing how Tom screwed up the forums.......:)

I would look at Abit's board, they have a better raid controller and their boards tend to be as stable or more stable than Asus and a little faster.

The ATI card is a great card and with the 300+ dollars you save by not buying the GTS Pro you can buy other things for your system, ie bigger monitor, or DVD, or more ram, faster CPU bigger HD.......:) you get the point.

How big do you want your case? a good midtower or super midtower with at least a 350w ps is always something good to have.

Hmmmmm..........sound? what type of sound are you going to put in there? SB live? or another sound card? do you what 5.1 speakers or will it be hooked up to your stereo?

these are important questions.........also there was no mention of a monitor. Do you already have something?
