I have seen computer cases designed specifically for hometheater use. I am really curious as to how this works. For example, how would you hook up all of the speakers? Anyway, I would appreciate it if someone could explain this or point me in the direction of where I could read about it. Thanks
most of these home theatre PC's (most PC's for that matter) have their own integrated Sound card with native support for 5.1 sound. and since they have their own decoder it's not necessary for them to output to another device or sound system.
the way this works is you need a PC speaker setup for the 5.1 that plugs into the Mini plugs on the computer and just outputs the sound.
On the other hand if you want it to go to your existing surround sound system, look for a sound card / PC that has either an Optical or Coaxial Digital output thats compatible with your existing sound system.
if you're going to buy speaker system for the PC, any of the 5.1 PC based systems should do the trick
