Question.
Assamite (acting minion) with one blood left enters combat with
Nosferatu (blocking minion) with two blood.
Assamite plays Quietus strike card (2 reg dmg) - and pays one blood as
cost of card - Nosferatu strikes with hands for +1 hand damage.
During strike resolution Nos. plays Theft of Vitae to take 2 blood from
the Ass.
Problem - Assamite goes to Torpor because of zero blood and regular
strike dmg - but does the ToV still take effect?
Decision at the table was no - because you can't steal what the
Assamite does not have (in this case 2 blood) not to mention the fact
that the regular damage had sent him to torpor anyway...
But a consensus from this group would be appreciated.

First off, Theft of Vitae is a strike. And most Nos wouldn't have the
thaum to play it. Taste of Vitae doesn't steal blood, it only gives
your vampire the blood that the other minion used to heal damage.
Since there was no damage healed (because the opposing vamp didn't have
any blood to heal it with), you get nothing. You can still play it,
and it still "takes effect", but it's effect in this case is that you
gain 0 blood.

You can't do that. Theft of Vitae is a strike card and must be used in
the strike declaration phase. In the strike resolution you move two
blood counters (or less if the target has not enough left) to the
Vampire playing Theft of Vitae (and of course excess flows off). Then
the damage healing step comes along and both minions must burn blood to
heal the damage.
In your case, the Assamite has received two damage (+1 hand damage), but
can't burn two counters to heal it and goes to torpor, burning as many
counters as it can.

Assuming you mean TASTE of Vitae, which you play after the damage
healing step, yes it takes effect. However, since in your example, the
Assamite lost no blood to healing damage, it will simply give you no
blood back. Would he have had 4 counters in the damage healing step, he
would have to burn 2 to heal it and Taste would give your Nosferatu
those two. Would he have had one, he would have been forced to burn that
one and go to torpor after being unable to heal the second point of
damage. Taste would give you one blood in that case.
Note how Taste of Vitae says *blood lost due to damage*, so it cannot
give you blood spent from playing cards or blood stolen via THEFT of
Vitae. In effect, Theft of Vitae is a zero damage strike card.

The word steal here makes me think you did actually mean Theft of Vitae.
Well, to steal two blood you require superior Thaumaturgy. There isn't
even ONE Nosferatu that has THA, so I'm at a loss who you would play it
with (unless you have crafted on skillcards of course).
Also, as above, Theft is a strike card and must be used as such. It
doesn't stack up with a hand strike, which is also a strike; just one
that you can do without playing a card.

You play Taste of Vitae at the end of the round, whenever that might be.
e.g. when a round ends from S:CE, when a round ends from torporisation,
after the Press Step and so on.

R stands for RANGED. The quietus strike who inflicts 2R damage in fact
inflicts 2 damage at long range.

Theft of vitae is a thaumaturgy card. did you mean taste of vitae ? this
card is played at the end of a round (see latest version of the card.
before errata, it was after strike resolution anyway)

when two vampires (minion) strike with damage dealing strike, both
strikes take effect simultaneously. (some stuff like strike done with
"first strike" can change this but it almost never happen).

I think your playgroup may be pretty confused about the combat rules.
you should read the rulebook or one of the many online guides explaining
the succession of combat steps.

if you can confuse Theft and taste, you can also confuse nos and !nos. Go
Yong-sun :-)

It was TASTE (so my bad) and the Nosferatu deck was the Black Hand
starter deck. You say !Nosferatu, I say Tomato....
To simplify the question - you cannot steal blood from a vampire that
has none (seems obvious really) during strike resolution.
There is confusion caused by lack of experience - and yes I've got a
print out of the full rules from WW - and the errata AND the
lasombra.com faq - all bound into one tidy volume - but sometimes its
easier to ask a dumb question.
