If you were to use this spell to turn a bone of an animal into a
live version of the same animal, what would the duration be? TIA.

1 hour for the +2 from related.
A bone is no longer 'animal' I'd put it in mineral. Same with class.
And unless it's a pice of chittin or something from a 0 int vermin the
result is going to have higher int.

I think the closest analogy in the examples is "Sheep
to wool coat," except you're going the opposite way, so
no +2 for "Same or lower intelligence." Call it a
factor of 4 for 3 hours.

Sheep to wool coat has the duration factors -- +2 Same size, +2 Related,
and +2 Same or lower intelligence for a duration of 2 days. Bone to
standard animal has a +2 related factor for a duration of 1 hour. Justisaur
is right, IME. Why would the sheep to wool coat gain a +2 for Same Class
but not a +5 for the same kingdom if you are right? It certainly gets the
related and same or lower intelligences, so it is either same size or same
class to get the +6.

No, Ron is actually the only one who does, and has been since around
1998. The rest of us are all cooperating in an elaborate trolling
effort to make him think he's not alone.

Hmmm. I'm sure you're right, but it seems strange to
me that a wool coat and a whole friggin' sheep are the
"same size." Oh, well.

Well, the spell description says "turning a tusk into an elephant would
be permanent", and this is pretty similar, so I'd say it would be
permanent.
What do you mean, "I wasn't asking about 1E/2E"? ;-)

What edition are you reading from? I don't see this in the spell
description anywhere for 3.5

That would be the DM's call, as stated in the spell description. The
guidelines suggest 1 hour, as the only factor which applies is "Related."

I don't think "Same Kingdom" applies because it's a bone. In game
terms, it's no longer a creature, it's an object. Likewise, since we're
talking a single bone and not a complete skeleton, same size is also not
the case. Really, the only category that applies is "Related."

You're right, that is strange. It must be either a BIG coat or a small
sheep.

How does one make a BIG coat out of a SMALL sheep?
