Invested in Sapphire Radeon 9700 Pro.
Has latest drivers (ATI Radeon Catalyst 3.2)
sadly though I still manage to get only 4046 3Dmarks, and graphic performance in Raven shield is really bad.
Ghost recon is quite good though allmost perfect!

Hope you can help me out!

Anything less than 7000 score at 1024x768 on 3dmark2001 i would be worried with your setup. Have you enabled 4x agp or better in bios, top performance and fast writes? What does direct x report? Make sure anti aliasing and anistropic filtering are off. You say you still get 4000 od 3mdarks, as in same as your previous card? If so it could be driver related. Make sure vsync is disabled and get the latest agp driver for your motherboard.

Check evrything Speeduk said, and also check for old drivers. What card did you have before this?

Your scores are on the low side but look at the specs of your system.

1.3 Athlon & SDRAM!

SDRAM kills performance on most athlons over 1.2 Ghz

If you previously had a Nvidia card in your system also I suggest a Clean install of XP!

Also I hope your referring to 2001 3dmarks?

I have a 9800 Pro card I just got and I get a 5620 on 3DMark 2003 and over 16500 with 2001 SE. Of course I don't have a 1.3G Athlon T-Bird either I got a P4 3.06 hehe. Though I can't get the 9800 to run in 8x without locking hard in games, though it will run in 8x on both 3DMark programs in a constant loop without a lockup. Go figure that out?

The previous card was a Asus GeForce 2 GTS. And the 4046 3DMarks was obtained in 3DMark 03.

I know the 1.3 T-bird and the SDRAM is by far the most optimal solution. BUT, the "old" Gfx card could run "Ravenshield" without any problems the new Radeon can't!

I also noted that the WinXP devicermanager says I have 2 Radeon 9700 Pro Cards in the PC? one Radeon 9700 Pro and one Radeon 9700 Pro Secondary ?´Is that the way it should be?

New install of XP will be next I guess... P4 and fast Ram later ;)

Yeah you should have 2 cards detected, one is the main one "that your using now" the other is for a second display. Your score in 3dm03 is spot on, actually im impressed as i get 4260 on my 1700xp and 266ddr :)

As far as raven shield goes, like all games, make sure you have the latest patch and try different catalyst versions....

P.s i thought you ment 3dmark 2001 as you state it only gets 4046 marks, you should be proud of that score on 03!

Hi Speeduk...
Thx for the helping answers to my problem.
I managed to solve it last night, a complete format/Re-Install of WinXP and the problem was gone! It seems that the Nvidia drivers or other "Ghost files" were inflicting the performance.
3Dmark03 is now at 4111, which taken my "outdated" 1.3 Ghz Athlom and my slow SDRAM in consideration is not that bad at all! Wonder how splinterCell will look.

Again, thanx for the support to all of you...

Yep, if all else fails, a fresh install will cure 99% of problems. Glad to see you got it working how you like :)
On the splinter cell note, with the catalyst 3.2's you need the new patch to launch the game, and when you launch it, be prepared for some lovely visuals :).
