did you guys miss me? haven't been around for a week or so. seems like forever... anyhow, i was busy taking care of business. yes, i am opening my own business around march. i am so excited!!! i got a 50 grand loan from the bank 20 from my parents and another 50 from my brother to open up a pc gaming room. like a internet caffee but no coffee. if you'd like to start your own business, don't hesitate to ask me.
the store is going to be located in bayside ny. that's in queens new york. i've got the software licensing and the building lease. all i need is some computer. softwares and the T1 connection was the most expensive... i am so excited that i'm sure i'm not making sense... anyways, if any of you guys live in new york or are planning on visiting ny, drop by and say hello to flavio321.

one other thing... i will be hiring some people to assemble pc's. i don't think i could do 60 pc by myself. so if you are interested and knowledged in pc assembly, email me.

What happened was I realised that I had made a spelling mistake after I hit the continue button, and I dont preview my posts, So I then hit the stop button, corrected the typo and posted, then when I went back to the forum, I realised I had posted twice, and it then wouldent let me delete it, all I got was "We have encountered an error"
The annoying thing is, it takes attention away from Flavs great news, Good on Ya Flav, go for it

thank you for your kind words and i wish you guys success.
notice i didn't put "too" at the end of that sentence. hopefully everything will turn out well. as for griz, you live in canada, i don't think you'd want to come all the way to nyc to assemble few pc's.

Good luck, remember to advertise yourself.

My cousin also runs an internet shop, and he has delivered propaganda all over his city, mainly in tourist information sites, as many of the customers are tourists which need to communicate with relatives and friends.

thank you again... i checked some other places and they charge 3~5 bucks an hour. i think i'll be charging $4 during day time and $3 from 10pm~7am. i'll be selling sodas and chips but no liquor. i thought about it but i don't want kids getting drunk and get into brawls. plus i'm only 24 so i can't get a liquor license until 25 in nyc.

my store will have better systems then all of the other existing gaming rooms. that'll be my advertisement. i haven't seen a pc over 700mhz on any of the other gaming rooms. every one of my pc's will be over 700mhz. i'll be half intel and half amd. i unfortunately have to use intel cause some morons have to see the "intel inside".
when i called places to order 80 stick of 128mb pc-133 rams, some pc's will have over 256mb ram, they offered me incredible deals. 80 sticks at 30 bucks each!!! i can see how people make money selling pc parts.
i won't be oc'ing most pc's just to be on the safe side. remember, they'll be on 24/7. but i'll oc the sh!t out of maybe 10 of the 60 pc's for the real demanding customers. but i can't seem to get a discount on geforce2 ultras. that means 4 grand on vcard alone. i am starting to realize that 120gands isn't a lot of money. i'll be going back to the bank for more.

i think it'll be fun to ask you guys to help me build the 10 kick a$$ pc's. i promise i'll put names of you guys on it i.e pc#1=griz #=garf etc. you guys can come or someone from the forum might recognize it. nothing too expensive i'm running out of dough.

Graduated Scale-make them all 1GHZ and charge $4.00 for the AMD's and $5.00 for the Intels. That way you get back the extra money you spend on the Intels. And then maybe 10 Ultra systems with 1200MHZ AMD's and 1200MHz Intels. Since you'll have so many chips, you can test and pick to see which ones to overclock for the Ultra systems. Then double the rates on those. PRO cards for the regular systems and Ultra cards for the Ultra systems. 256MB for the Ultra systems. 20GB hard drives should be enough for all the systems. And a file server to hold all the CD's on hard disk. The file server should be dual and have plenty of space in Raid 0 configuration.

"Thats see if this system will rock or not:

-AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz you can oc to 133Mhz DDR FSB if you want to (Well, you know how i fell about AMD!)
-A7V133 mobo
-52X CD-ROM (would be enough) --> DVD-Rom 16x Pioneer or 12x Toshiba
-350W P/S or 300W (depends)
-IBM 45GB 75GXP (unless you want a SCSI)
-Geforce2 Ultra (fastest aviliable)
-Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer (that card rox)-> Live! Platinum 5.1
-256MB of RAM (not sure about the brand)-> Mushkin, Corsair, or Micron
-FOP 32 HSF.

ok, no DVD-rom nor CDRW for any of the computers. HD space is not necessary, 15gig 7.2k hd for all the pc's...
i need some info on the intel systems since i don't know too much about intel systems nor their mobos. and no ddr's.

so far i'll have LordKaos and maybe, maybe wusy. but a computer named wusy doesn't sound appealing. and crashman sounds like it's going to crash all the time.

The selling point of your business will be what? Unparalled internet access speed for gamers and access for those needing to get on for various reasons. Intranet LAN parties? T1 is not all that fast. Seems to me you would have faster access going with a networked cable modem setup using a few hubs and routers. You could ask your local cable company what they offer for businesses. Locally I can quadruple my cable modem speed which can already be as fast as 2000-3000kbps on a good day. Usually around 12000 – 16000 though which is faster than T1. Does your T1 line guarantee ~12000kbps for each pc? If not and the bandwidth is split up… What are you paying per month?

Balls, said the Queen if I had them I would be king!

There is no need to spend a fortune on Sound Cards. Your customers will be using earphones, won't they? Otherwise the noise in the gaming room will be unbearable.

Instead of a SB Live of any kind, it would be enough with a SB 128 or even 16 PCI and good earphones (and you'll need to find a way to prevent people stealing them).

You should buy a few computers first, and see how the business is going...

Anyway, are you going to network all the computers using ethernet?

You should have a computer (the one you control) with a burner, some customers will download things, and they want to carry them home, transfer them through the lan to the computer with the burner and burn them, just charge them twice the cost of the CD.

yes, every computer will have headphones.
i cannot just buy a few comps and see if the business will be good or not, i'll go out of business real quick that way. i have to go all out or nothing.
as for hobbits suggestion on cable modem... that's a one way ticket to bankrupcy. every single gaming rooms have t1 connection. i'll be paying $300 for every 10 workstations. i have to run a legit business. i cannot run the t1 thru a router and distribute it to all 60 pc's. there will be 2 t1 lines coming into the store, this is what they recommended. if one line is some how down, i can automatically reroute the bandwith to the other one. fool proof connection. cable is out of the question.
there will be 2 dedicated servers and a LAN thru 10/100 ethernet. the backup t1 line is another 1000/month and rent is 3500/month. i figure electricity will come out to another 2000/month so my total monthly expense will be $8000 more or less. it pretty good considering it's almost self run business. every other place i go to, it gets packed and people wait to use a pc.

Hey, I thought I'd give you a birds eye view. I've used a gaming room in Russia as a tourist. I needed the internet, I played some games, and I used a scanner for family photos.

I have a friend who runs it, and they are all basically 700 mhz and he had fiber optics coming in at some insane bandwidth. It was all packed with people playing counterstrike across the world and they had one guy just sitting at a terminal with a cash register collecting money. It was a really good setup. In another room they had 2 pool tables with leather couches and it was just really well done.

The scanner was top of the line by the way, so I scanned some old photos from the 19th century as 100 mb tiff files and he burned them to cd. Don't forget that tourists could take advantage of this kind of service.

They charged $1/hr, which is extremely expesive for Russia, but it was ok for tourists. Nonetheless, it was filled with Russians yelling from the 4 different rooms of computers as they killed each other.

He had some kind of special software that basically locked the computers to any hacking. It was basically limited to all the new games (all of them!!!)and the net. At the top was a little timer that showed how much you had paid for, but it was hidden when you were in a game and you would just get booted when you ran out.

Flavio, I'm here for ya babe-oh, your a guy, the drag had me confused WTG!
I'll help you on the Intel systems, just PM me with any questions, keep the AMD fanatics out of it as they might steer you wrong. But your going to have to name a system after me-and make it an all out performance machine, as a name like that will attract the hardcores.
First of all, I think you might be wasting you money on the Ultra cards, but hey, it' your money.
Now, if your going to be spending that kind of money on the video cards, you might as well pick up some 1GHz processors, about $70 more than the 866, which would have been my first suggestion if you had not planned on overclocking everything.
Now that I know we're in the overclocking business, I would suggest using the CUSL2-C motherboard and the 650 or 866 chipset at 150MHz FSB-that gets you 975 that's actually faster than a 1GHz and pushes the video card a little harder as well. Lie and say they are 1GHz, if you ever get caught, say you rounded it off.
You'll only need 128MB of ram for these, but it should run Cas2 at the bus speed you'll use, such as the ocz memory you suggested.
Use FOP32 heatsinks, they will protect the longevity of the processors.
Any Geforce card will work. For cheaper standard systems, I suggest the Vision Tek GTS cards, and Gladiacs for the high end systems.
Speaking of high end, you should be able to get 1125MHz out of some 1GHz processors at 150MHz
I personally would not put ANY removable media drives on the systems, it opens you up to idiots and assholes. If someone needs a game saved they can put it on the server.
Put a dab of heatsink paste under the Northbridge cooler, and use Artic Silver on the 1GHz machines.
Put the systems in a box so they can't be tampered with, and that way you can leave the cover off. Two 6 inch fans sould be able to vent an uncovered PC in an adequately sized box. You can use chicken wire on the insides of the box to reduce RFI to the room. Ground the chicken wire.
Since you are using a box, the case underneath can be the cheapest possible. It would be handy to have a slide-out drawer.
What else do you need to know?

Suicide is painless...........

crashman your ideas are interesting, but chickenwire? That won't look very proffesional. Unless their are chickens roaming the room and you want some kind of country theme in new york.

Just kidding, but I can't really picture a box with chicken wire. Why not just have all the computers in another room with no cover on since the whole thing is a network anyways and you don't need cdrom or disk support except on the one with the scanner and burner.

I'm just rolling over here about the chicken wire....you've gotta explain that....

Reply to dhlucke

$1/hr??? i guess it's their economy. if i charged that, i'd go belly up and i'll have to run away from the banks and my family.
there won't be any pool tables but i'll have a couch and coffee table for the waiting people (hope that couch is packed all the time). my gaming room will be a revolutionary gaming room. my computers will be better performing, better looking with 19" monitors on all of them.
there will be pc cams on 20 of the 60 pc's and unlike any other gaming rooms here in nyc, i will have parking.
the single most expensive item for my business was the timetrack-software. a british company specialize in that software. it is very unique and neat. i'll be tracking the time or pre-insert the amount of time. i can also make/scan membership cards that works as a debit card for the pc room. that alone cost me $6000.

many people have asked me about assembling pc's for me. i don't have time nor the extra money to ship the parts for you to assemble. like i asked before, you have to come to the store and do it. you have to commute to the store in bayside ny. so far i have my friend helping me out. i will pay $30/computer. at the rate that we are going, that's about 10 pc's per day.

as for crashman... i'll name a computer after you. i need 5 intel super computers. it'll be:

5 intel super computers
5 amd super computers
25 amd superior computers
25 intel superior computers

the 5 super amd's are done. i will name one of the intel supers "Crashman". i'll go with the parts you've said and i'll get the 1gig p3.
ok here's the thing about my super computers. they'll all have names instead of numbers, and they'll have the fd trinitron monitores. they'll also look damn good with painted cases and plexi windows with neon lights. the supers will be in a dark smoking section room. so if you are planning on dropping by... come stoned. the neon lights and the pink floyd background music will trip you even more...

My slowest PC out of 61 computers is @1050Mhz

Reply to flavio321

Imagine if you will a 2'x2'x1' box made of something cheap and sturdy, like midium density particle board. Now, the INSIDE of the box holds a computer. So no one can see the inside of the box. So you can simply staple chicken wire to the inside of the box to reduce RFI, thereby eliminating the need for the case cover of the computer within.

Suicide is painless...........
