Did you give Microshaft permission to install the scanning software.

A thought:

Look in the Windows\Downloaded Program Files folder for an ActiveX control called "Update Class". Right-click and remove the file. Afterwards, be sure that your security level in the browser is not too high, which is accessed under Control Panel\Internet Options\Security\Custom Level.

Yes Toey I have the security settings on default and I have removed the file "update class" but it still doesnt work. I have the security setting for activeX under medium. Could u explain to me what the update class is? It is strange, I just format my computer a few days ago and updated to sp1 and then i reset my mb bios then this happens. =\ thanks!

"Update Class" is an ActiveX control actually called Windows Update Client Control. I pre-supposed that if you removed it, when accessing Windows Update, you would be allowed to install it again. I mentioned the security settings, just in case the ActiveX plugins and settings were changed, and wouldn't allow downloading or installation of these kind of controls.

Perhaps you should try installing the latest Virtual Machine or the more recent Sun Microsystems JVM and then insure that you don't have some kind of software firewall enabled that might interfere with installations of this sort. You should also open the Program Files\Windows Update folder and delete everything in it (except for the V4 folder), just in case the cache got polluted and needs cleaning out. The same goes for any Temporary Internet Files and cookies attributed to Microsoft. And make sure that the JIT Compiler for Virtual Machine is enabled under Internel Options\Advanced\Microsoft VM.

Here's a couple of pages you might find helpful, with some possible workarounds:

You could also try an alternate URL, such as:

Hi Toey,
Thanks for ur reply. I have tried to reach the update page wth the links u provided but it still does not work and it did not prompt me to reinstall the activeX file I have not tried installing the latest virtual machinese but i will do so next. Additionally, I cannot find a windows update folder under my program files. Is that a problem? thanks i will surely update more as i go along with this.

Thanks for ur help Toey! I read one of the forums from the link u provided and was able to try one of the solutions they provided and it worked! I can't believe how many people are having the same problem! I just had to clear my SSL certificates and windows update able to scan with no problem, did not ask me to reinstall activeX tho, but i assume its still on my computer. THanks for ur help!

Okay, silly problem. But i think i found out the reason why it wasnt working. When i reset BIOS i updated the TIME and DATE but left the YEAR as 2002. So I guess the certificate isnt working because of either its expired or it wont let u use it in the future. Either case, everything works fine now. Just something to check for people who are having the same problems. Thanks again Toey! =D
