At least I have two different systems... one with a GeForce3 and another with a Radeon 9700 Pro...

But seriously, this is getting really bad. What happens when you can't make good graphics cards? Buy rights to good games to make yourself look better, of course. Another cheap nVidia ploy. Boy I'm getting sick of them.

If this is the future of PC gaming, then I'm gunna have to build a second PC with an Nvidia board in it....Yea....that one I can treat like an ugly step-child, and kick it around, and beat it, and....Eh, maybe not.

Aww, man. That's TERRIBLE if it's true.
How can they make PC games proprietary, like console games? That makes NO sense whatsoever, and IMHO would be stupid on the part of game developers. Why would you want to ace yourself out of over millions of potential customers?

There's gonna be some lawsuits happening if this goes down.

I think it's time to start boycotting Nvidia. They're really out of control.

Boycott's are good if you have alot of people behind you, but I fear that the general gaming community doesnt even see this coming.....Congrads on the Gigolo status there d.

Nah, a boycott wouldn't work. This would have to be settled in the courts, or else not at all. This is monopalistic behavior. It also aces out companies like Matrox, SiS, Trident, VIA, and even Intel. I don't think this will go down without a fight.

I think this could hurt online gaming, too. When a new multiplayer game comes out, if it's an Nvidia game, you'll have only other Nvidia owners online.

I also think it's important to point out that site claims that both Nvidia and ATI have been courting games manufacter's seeking exclusiveness where games titles are concerned. We might only be seeing the first few games houses pledge their allegiance to Nvidia because NV is quick to throw out the cash that game developers so badly need. Though I would be apalled to see ATI go this direction, I wouldnt be suprised to find out that this is in fact the case.

I'm inclined to think this is a rumour - not a well known site combine with the fact that the thing got published April 2nd - the day after April Fools (hey, the sources sent it in sometime). We'll find out E3.

Of course if it is true than Nvidia deserves to burn in hell. The ability to run a lot of games on just about any hardware as long as it is recent enough is a major strength of the PC as a gaming platform. You can buy all three consoles cheap, but two seperate PC so you could play all the games would be pricey and could price PC gaming out of existence.

If ATI does it they can suck a nut too. I'm sick of this monopolistic crap. Then there's the big gun capitalistic corporations out there. Just look at what AOL did to ICQ, Netscape, and everything else they got their hands on. Apple is dead, Linux still hasn't picked up, AOL still has 30 million subscribers, Real Audio is still used, etc etc

Just what we need. Proprietary games and graphics cards. That's the most backwards idea I've heard in a long time.

I sure hope you're right that it's a hoax or a bad rumor. If it's true, it would set a really bad trend, IMHO.

Where have the ethics gone?!

I hope Omid rants MADLY on this one.
nVidia deserves to have THG show a public modding of a geForce->Quadro if they continue like this.

Think about it though, Twitch is right, there will be major conflict of interest, for Xbox for example, knowing that Intel and nVidia are both teamed up in there, while in PC business, nVidia is trying to remove Intel's OEM video boards with its own proprietary standards, hence destroying competition.
Even Intel has much more ethics than this. Seriously, nVidia has gone low the barrel here, it's just worse than what any company has done lately. I openly forgive any mistake Intel has done in the past 10 years after reading this in fact, if it's true.
They cannot do this, it will NOT work. Just because your core sucks and its programmability won't be used widely by developpers, doesn't mean you have the right to destroy competition. The fact that now millions own R300 boards with DX9 ready, shows that nVidia cannot succeed here.

You know, I really wonder if the author of this website is just a moron. Read the article on nVidia's deal with EA on the same page. He also refers to that as an "exclusivity" deal when, in reality, it's a "preferred hardware" deal. Maybe this guy doesn't understand the difference? I'm pretty sure that even after EA signs the "The Way it was Meant to be Played" sell-out with nVidia, EA games will STILL run very well on ATI parts. That's not exclusivity--that's an optimizations-in-exchange-for-support-and-cash deal. There's a huge difference. It doesn't make the games proprietary.

It would be much easier for me to believe that Half-life is going to put the "The Way it was Meant to be Played" seal on their box and maybe have some optimizations for nVidia hardware than it would be for me to believe Half-Life 2 will ONLY work on nVidia.

I agree with you. We all know bussiness is to make money. PC Games will only be optimised on specific platform but not exclusively. Games manufacturers don't want to select side because they also want to make money on cross-platform. Don't you think Nintendo and XBox RPG fans don't want to play Final Fantasy X-2 or Devil May Cry 2, or Sony fans don't want to play Resident Evil 0? That's why manufacturers like EA make the games cross-platform, and I really happy to see this. I believe games manufacturers will only make optimisation on specific platform, whether it's ATi or nVidia. Means that the games will play just as good but may be a bit better on the optimised hardware but that won't hurt.
p/s: I wonder if the company involved change from nVidia to ATi would people said the same thing? Because IMHO there might be people flaming at this simply because they own ATi card, you know, fanboy post.

You never know how stupid you are until you have done something stupid enough for you to realize it.

Chill chill. First off, Half-Life 2 is never coming out, despite what people say lol. Next, us l337 h4x0rs will just mess around with the games so they run on everything or we'll do something like RivaTuner's driver/ sublevel hacks that can make a card be quadro and geforce, adjusting to the situation (yeeah, I made some driver do that several months ago, was kinda cool). There will be ways around it, trust me.

OK...flame war...You Nvidiots can turn this around and twist it up, any way you want. You've had to get good at it considering that the company you worship continually craps on the industry, and cant play fair in light of the fact that their hardware isnt the fastest anymore. Nvidia sucks my cocknballs....

I'm turning this into a flame war? U just twisted everything I said around. O, and don't insult me, if u wanna get personal, come to my house so we can have a real fight. With that said, I simply mentioned that the article states it's not only nv that's trying to do this. You're biased out of your mind and can't realize it.

Nobody said we are NV haters. Most of us are neutral, but this is bringing out a lot of anger.

BTW, even though it mentioned ATi, so far EA, being owning over 50% of the publisher market, is with nVidia. We've yet to hear ATi.

All we are saying in general and overall, is that if there is going to be proprietary or very biased optimizing of games, we are against that, and will be very angry. Optimizations are good, but optimizing like hell for one card and letting the others rot doing 36 light passes with no multipasses, is not.
Especially when ATi is using the standard of DirectX 9, by Microsoft. If nVidia wants to push CineFX, so be it, but at least let the programmers choose and program for the normal standards as well. Sheesh, looks like Carmack is the only ethical guy nowadays.

You're right, I am pretty sure it won't be proprietary. But it is getting close, when you make sure one card goes through 3dMark03-like rendering of tests, instead of proper standards optimizations. God bless Carmack for keeping the heart of game graphics intact, and open to all.
