You need to post your system spec's completely. Including Operating system.

9000 pro is almost as good as 8500, meaning better then gf4mx440. you dont have to insult him.

If its not broken, you're not trying hard enough.

Try going into your performance settings settings and disabling your pagefile. Restart your computer, and then reenable the pagefile. I know with XP the pagefile is called that, but I'm not sure about older versions. Personally, since you have a lot of ram, I don't think you need to use a pagefile anyway, so you can do just fine running windows from ram. I did it with 512MB.

Can you specify your OS version as well?
Did you try loading fail save bios selections and see if that work?
Did you completely reinstall everything(windows, office, everything) when you added your new v-card?

A fine day!

rt-click my computer - properties - performance - virtual memory - let me specify my own virtual memory settings - disable virtual memory - okay - okay - restart.

Now you have no virtual memory.

my op system is windows 98 SE, I just re-loaded everything this past week as my first new card, the GEForce MX440, was difficult to load & after coming back from 2 shops my system was dead so I just purchased a new Power supply, Motherboard & hard drive and started all over again, but I loaded everything with my old voodoo card to get my system up and running again. I haven't tried anyting in the bios except setting my agp port to 128 mb as 1 shop told me to always set it to more than the card is rated for, Thanks.

Win98 cannot uitilize more than 256m/ram i do believe. if youwant that extra ram to be of use, get win2000 or XP

someone tell me im wrong if i am, but ive read this and heard it from to 2 experienced techinitions. they said win98 just doesnt address over 256

have you checked your computer for viruses? waht programs are running? ctrl-alt-del to find out. thats a complicated problem and id rather sit down at your monitor than troubleshoot over these forums.

actually, id take this to the Memory or CPU section of these forums. the people there might be able to help you better, were just a bunch of gamer hobbiests here, in the CPU sections theres ALOT of nerds who know alot more than i do

blah.. siggys suck

Thanks for the advise, I may take this to the CPU or Memory section especially about using extra RAM, once again thanks.

I tried working with not virtual memory & that seemed to help sometimes but wasn't consistent and still had problems & some time lag between programs, however getting advise from the motherboard guys was a good idea, someone suggested a download program called "Casheman" to help with the extra ram, apparently anything over 512mb with windows 98 doesn't do anything for the computer & in some case like mine it actually hinders the machine, but this Casheman program sorts out all the bugs, and speeds up everything at least it seems to be working real good now. Thanks for the advise.
p.s. you are right they say, more ram works best with windows 2000 or XP.

Glad to see it seems to have helped your problem ... sorry for getting to this thread late, but I thought I'd add my experience. Running without problems a Radeon 9500 Pro on an Asus A7V8X with 512MB PC-333 DDR and Windows ME (I know, I know ... I'm upgrading to XP on my next re-build).

However, when I tried to go up to 768MB, the system became unstable. This was manifested as graphic card problems (wouldn't recognize the card properly, default to 256-colour mode, etc, etc.). All problems solved when I when back to 512MB. It definitely seems like Win98/ME is unstable with larger amounts of memory, although I suspect this is also somewhat graphics card dependent.

Where does good judgement come from? Experience. Where does experience come from? Bad judgement.

Windows 9x/ME can't manage memory over 512 MB very well. The problem can be fixed with system.ini tweaks but I always forget what they are. It's easier just to use Cacheman 5.11.

<A HREF="http://www.outertech.com" target="_new">LINK</A>

Here's Microsoft's description of the problem.

This is a fairly common problem with 98/ME and large ammounts of ram, I had it about a year ago when I upgraded my system to 1g of ram. There are two solutions, 1) XP/2000 2) Limit the memory the system can see... I installed with 512mb ram and then after adding the tweaks (from ms knowledge base.) I added the other two sticks in and all was happy. I show 768mb runs stable... If I remember correctly what you need to search for is "rogue vcache". There are two or three lines you need to add to an ini file to fix it... but don't try to install with more than 512mb memory installed, it doesn't work very well.
