Hi there. You may remember me from the Drivers forum complaining about the drivers form nvidia that have screwed up my ancient TNT2. So I am choosing to get a new graphics card partially so I can get TV out and watch DVD Movies on TV but also to get better performance on my PC in games.

Currently the top graphics cards are nVidias Geforce FX 5800 Ultra and ATi Radeon 9800. Which one should I get if I want the top performance and full compatibility in games?

Also what card manufacturer (e.g. Abit, Asus, MSI) shoudl I choose for the best features and perfomance. RSVP soon

nVidia makes graphics chips? I thought they just did core logic??? I'm confused...And I thought ATI just did OEM stuff. Wierd.

You should definitely buy the Voodoo5. 3DFX makes the best graphics cards.

No, an S3 card would be awesome, or maybe a Rage 128 Pro....

Go for the 9800, and never, ever buy the 5800 Ultra. Sell it if you win one. 'nuf said.

The Nvidia cards are not the best. The Best are the R9800 Pro and R9700 Pro. Get either one.

lol, are you guys just joking around? S3 or 3Dfx or Rage128 Pro?

you bought mx440? hm...
I don't really agree for that "geforce is the best", maybe until NV35(is it? I forgot) out, but certainly not now.

Yo thanx to everyone who made decent suggestions. S3 or 3Dfx or Rage128 Pro - what a load of shite - id be better of wit my current graphcis card

First 3Dfx have gone outta business long ago and they are working at nVidia hence the reason their new card is named the FX as a tirbute to the ex-3Dfx workers that nVidia now employs.

ATi Rage 128 is certainly long gone and only used in really low end entry level systems.

And last but not least the S3 is an onboard graphics chip and I am not willing to replace my motherboard. What kind of idiot do u jokers take me 4?!?!?!?!?

My point being make sensible decisions - Geforce FX 5800 Ultra or ATi Radoen 9800 and which manufacturer, e.g. Asus, Abit, XFX, PNY, MSI and Gainward etc. I no that ATi and nVidia dont make the graphics cards themselves they license the chip to other manufacturers many who people will know are motherboard manufacturers but some provide extra features and are better value for money whereas others may have good perfomance but the m/f's drivers are really rubbish and really screw up games, and others may have a good warranty. See my point.

One more thing, who knows when the ATi All in Wonder Radeon 9800 PRO (the 256Mb DDR RAM version) is going to come to the UK, how much (if its out in the US how much does it retail for?) and whether its worth getting over the standard Radeon 9800 and Geforce FX 5800 Ultra, or whether there is a newer better version worth waiting for.

Once again thank you for your suggestions.
