well I was planing on getung myself a 9500pro, but for some reason the price jumped, and know i got myself a question. I have the chance to get a really good deal on the ti 4400 or 4600.In Toms vga charts those 3 cards are neck and neck, and i just wanted to know if i would be held back by the fact that the geforce 4's are dx 8.1, vs the 9500 pro that is a 9.0 Will the 9500 pro jump ahead in the newer games?

Useless post Phial, try posting more helpful information.

The Radeon 9500 pro is slightly better then the ti4200, but less then that of the ti4600 in most of the reviews I've seen for these types of cards. However, the Radeon 9500 pro does offer superior performance when using quality modes such as Anti-aliasing (removing jaggared lines), or Anistrophic filtering (method of blending textures on the Z axis), beating the Geforce Ti4600 significantly.

Also being a DX9 card, you'll have more features available that games can take advantage of in the future. Also it is possible with the reflashing of the Video card firmware to allow overclocking, which could push it even beyond the ti4600 without using either Anti-aliasing, or Anistrophic filtering.

Ditto to jsm's post. That post is pretty much what you'll want to base your decision on. I personally think the 9500 Pro is the way to go. It's an awesome card. Unfortionately the prices for Radeons hasn't really changed much in the last couple of months.

OK JSM...the 9500 isnt slightly better then the 4200....it's a freakin' ton better crackhead. And there isnt no way in hell that a STRANGER to this forum is going to show up and tell an established member that his post is useless, and that he SHOULD write about this or that. I know why he wrote what he did, and it doesnt matter if you do...so shut the fuuck up...

well, what you say isnt true exactly. its more on par with a TI4400 for DX8 games. and the geometry engine is easily twice as powerful, which includes the pixel and vertex shaders. teh ATI card also makes use of newer memory compression than the GFTI series..

so, if your playing UT2003, it will be faster than a TI4200 by quite a bit. and more future proof

and yeah, i shouldnt have flamed. but people need to *SEARCH* the forums more. even checking pages 2 and 3 would help. this place is turning into a graphcs card "Q&A" for THG, not a place to find unique information like most forums are intended. .. and i swear to got half these people forget that theyve even posted and never repond...

blah.. siggys suck

Seems as JMS was just trying to get some help for the original poster. Seems also to me that you need to clean up your keyboard, and your mind while you're at it! You've only been a member of this forum since January 2003 so who made you the keeper of the forum? Seems to me that you are the one that needs to shut up! This type of behavior is no way to encourage others to participate in these discussions. The opinions of others are just as important as yours!

Have a nice day!

Unfortunate for you GeneticWeapon, that you cannot dictate policy for the forum. At least your post was enjoyable in a hypocratic sense, trying to dictate to me how I should, or should not write, while at the same time responding to my own apparently "Dictator" like style of my response.

Bear in mind, you have no power, I shall write what I want, when I want, and in the way I want it to be written. You keep at those flame posts, they should clock you up another rank soon.

Granted Phial, there are a lot of Nvidia vs ATI posts, I have seen my fair share of Nvidia vs 3DFX (back in the day), and AMD vs Intel arguments. What though is conterproductive, is simply suggesting to someone posting a question, to "go away", this moves the post to page 1, invites flames, and does the opposite of what you are trying to avoid (ie pages of these types of arguments). Try not responding to posts you deem frustrating and anoying, and let new forum blood answer them.

What those charts don't show is that the 9500 PRO will beat the snot out of the geforce 4's when antialiassing and anistropic filtering are turned on.

Add to that the fact that the 9500 PRO has DirectX 9 support instead of directX 8, and I think it's a clear choice if you plan to keep the card for a while.

Best regards,

I'd also choose the 9500 Pro because of its abilities with AA enabled. It also has Directx 9 hardware support so it's a little more future proof as an upgrade.

I'd also like to see more people searching the forum first because most of these questions have been re-hashed 100 times. Unfortunetly most people want their "specific" question answered without having to filter out data that doesn't apply to them.

the real problem with the charts on the 9500 pro vs 4200/4400 cards. Old drivers. ATi's newest drivers have increased framerates conciderably in the past few months. The old drivers weren't nearly as optmised as they are now, and ATi's still making leaps. Right now i would give a vote for 1 real reason. nVidia's video drivers have been horrible lately. People getting problems left and right. Right now the only problem i hear about the ATi cards is their CS black screens when in open gl mode. Otherwise their pretty good. Mattering on how much more the card will costs i'd go for the 9500, but if your gona save a lot of money, the 4200/4400's will do fine.

yo Gen the reason he said that was cause this hoserb dearest comrade has said some pretty stupid sh*t in some other threads.
once again you go dissing geforce 4 tis.
w/o aa/aniso ti4400/4600 is better in most things so stfu already! YES he should get a 9500 because those things are cool, but im just being honest about the benchmarks.
Damn, at least i can remember when something was good, you guys act like because the new radeons are out the gf4 ti was never good!
When it first came out people were going GAA-GAA!! it was worlds ahead of the 8500 (who cares if its a teensy bit more advanced) thats why I bought one! and guess what, it kicked major ass!!! untill the 9700 came along.

Long live ATI.

Willamette, why do you think so ill of me..I have been so good to you....but this to you I must say. I would trade my 8500LE for a Ge Force4 Ti card any day...I'm not stupid. And if I upset anyone here by telling JSM to shut the fuuck up then sorry, I dont like noobs mouthing off to people I'm semi-quasi-friends with here. Thats all. I'm exactly the same way in real life. And if it were one of you guy's(except cone head)that he mouthed off to, I would have done the same thing....and to you conehead...you can swallow my entire cocknballs and butt the hell out.

....look at all of this retaliation towards me, I'm amazed. I gues this makes me the village idiot, which I never planned on being. At least it's giving y'all something to do I guess. And I geuss that the old saying holds true, no one remembers the good things you've done, only the bad....

Weapon youre taking it all wrong! I love you! Ive said that before, lol.
I was just pointing out the facts.
Youre anti-nv Gen, which is considerably more justified than being anti-ati, but still...
BTW about the vid card FAQ that would be a good idea, and alot of threads in this section are either dumb or simply way to repetitive. I think if some1 contacted some1 w/the power they would gladly make a sticky out of it.
Included in the FAQ should be the Toms VGA Charts, or at least a BIG FAT LINK at the top.

*and yes i have a big long spring inside me and after every post i have someone wind it up again so im ready to go!

Long live ATI.

Geez your funny, I dont know what to say. You of all people I wouldnt expect to be cool towards me, because I've slammed you more then once. Your just a good kid....And as far as the Graphics Card Faq goes, doesnt Eden have the power to make it a sticky?..if he could ever find time to take a break from being Figwitt or RandalFlagg, you might want to ask him.

The G4 Ti4600 and R9500P are neck and neck in most tests. the Ti4400 is a worthless piece of overpriced hardware that preforms much less that a 4200 in most tests, and those are EASILY beaten by the 9500P by 10%+ in most tests.

eBay, kick ass!
