My system is a home build AMD Duron 1.3(will be updating to XP 2100+ later) running on Asus A7V8X motherboard, with 1024MB DDR PC2100 RAM, Western Digital 30GB and an old 8Gb as spare, Memorex24xMAX CD-Writer, running Windows 2000 Pro Service pack 3.
When I first put win2k on the system I used a different hard drive just to try it out first.
My problem started when my virus software reported a boot virus and need to boot into Dos. How do you boot Dos in win2k.
My current sytem is now virus free but I have one drive with a virus in the boot section how do I go about clearing it.? HELP it is a drive I could be using.

I suggest you download one of the antivirus utilities from this site such as F-Prot, with the updated virus definition files. Extract the files to a floppy disk (more than one may be needed). Change the boot order in the BIOS so that the floppy disk drive (A:) is the first bootable device. Then boot with the floppy disk, and follow the onscreen instructions.

It would also be best if you created the floppy disk set on a computer that is virus-free in all respects. If the hard drive that contains the virus is still connected to the IDE cable, there's no way that you can be absolutely sure that the other hard drive is not contaminated ... some MBR viruses do not become active immediately.

If you are not sure how to enter the BIOS, reboot the computer and look carefully at the first screen that appears. There should be a key specified that will allow you to enter "Setup", such as Del, F1, etc. If all else fails, hold down F10, and then click "No" to saving any changes, because you won't have actually done anything yet. Then change the boot order of the devices, save your changes, and boot with the floppy.
