Hi all,
I first heard about the software hack that turns a radeon 9500 into a 9700 in the 9600 review Tomshardware did. I did a search on the web and got more information about it. From what I could tell it was working for some people.
I decided to buy a saphire radeon 9500 (non-pro). I got the rivatuner hack to work (after some headaches with windows file protection). My benchmarks were right on par with other 9700 cards. But there was a big problem. An annoying checker board patern in just about every 3d game. I reserched this at www.guru3d.com. I found that most other people were having the same problem. This is kind of a bummer. What I found out after I got the card was alot different from what I heard before hand. I know your always taking your chances when you try to over clock or tweek things. I feel a little led astray here. Just to let anyone who is thinking about doing this. Don't bother unless you will be happy having A 9500 in the end. It was interesting experience. I hope I can send this card back.

The 9500 you got was probably one of the cards that didnt yield as a 9700....so it was turned into a 9500. Too bad..at least you did the software mod, and not the harware. I'm sure you'll be able to return it.

My score....<A HREF="http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=6258104" target="_new">http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=6258104</A>

Its still a great card.

Alot of people dont realize the 9500 is very overclockable. The hack enables more pipelines, sometimes it wont work as it didnt for you.

But, you can still clock it much higher than it is stock and have a great video card.

I had a 9500 that checker'd after the mod, I sent it back to Newegg and just bought a 9700. Of course, that was a whole slew of problems after that.
