If this is true, and if it does like it did to the NV200 when it came out, then maybe I might reconsider completely what I thought of the FX5600. God knows, it'd surprise me a lot if it does, but, if nVidia has begged at the old driver team's doors for another one, maybe they might have something behind.

The NV30 just isn't performing like its specs show, and it's true.

I just thought of something utterly scary. What if you were right all along, the drivers:
-Lower temperatures of the serie
-Fix instabilities
-Raise the performance of the FX5600 Ultra over the 9500PRO
-Fix all AA and Aniso problems including performance AND image quality
-Raise across the board the performance making nVidia the new leader

You will have won everything we threw at you...
[surprised]
*shudders at the thought of this possibility*

the low temps would only be fixed if the card performance improves such that high clock speeds r not necessary so 5800 can be throttled down. If I do win, party at my house:)

Hilbert space is a big place.

For me, french this year has improved me a lot. I used to suck in syntax, but was one of the best always at grammar.

I feel the FX is looping too much, hence high temps. How do you explain the horrid screen saver overheats? Yeah it has throttled fan speed there, but christ, is the chip REALLY that hot? It has less pipelines, it has to be doing something too much, in there, to overheat.

Too many passes to render certain textures you mean?

How it can be possible to lower the temp. with driver update?

Who knows?
It uses such an odd pipe layout, I never understood it, not to mention a very weird Vertex Shader amount procedure. (just what the hell is a Vertex Array?)
I wish someone could clarify how a silicon can actually switch from friggin 4 pipes to 8 and where the hell the improvement is if the 4 pipe design is by 2, and the 8 pipe is by 1.

Like I said, maybe the GPU is badly being handled, such as looping stuff for nothing, or simply that the eletrical specs of the BIOS are not properly used. It can be possible man.

Tbreds can run at 1.45V, yet they put them at 1.6V.

And don't forget, DDRII is a whole new world for everyone. Who knows if memory optimizations might not improve the efficiency of the board and aid performance? Memory also gets hot, and DDRII gets hotter than regular DDR, so maybe there's something to be gained there.

This is going to sound gay coming out of my mouth, but I admire Nvidia for trying out the 128bit+DDR2 route vs. 256bit+DDR1...bleeding edge technology is cool, and it coulda been great.

No it wouldn't!
If nVidia has 500MHZ DDR 2 already wasted, and the bandwidth with 128-bit isn't more than the R9700PRO, it sucks!

You need 256-bit DDR 2 or TRUE DDR2 with quad data prefetch.

How do you know DDR II is hotter?

The graphics card form at the moment is not using quad data prefetch, and DDR II also uses much lower voltage with much more optimized paths for better clock speeds and better temps. I do think it is less hot.

The review sites say that DDR2 runs cooler...

Okay, so maybe I'm wrong about that. Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

It would be the second time. :)

To be honest, I think I assumed it would run hotter, but in reality, there's no reason why it would have to.
