Hiya all, I want to get a new video card on wednesday. (Radeon 9800Pro w/128MB)I'm pretty sure I'm going with a third party card made by Sapphire. (http://www.sapphiretech.com/) Have any of you heard anything about them? Good or bad? And are all manufacturers the same? I've been told that Nvidia doesn't make their cards directly. So should I be ok with one made by sapphire?

Also, with the radeon 9800 Pro, should I get my drivers from ATI directly or the 3rd party company that manufactured it?

Crap, just made a fool outta myself :(

Oh, I'm sorry. What I meant to say was that I heard nVidia doesn't manufacter their own cards. So I should be fine with a card that wasn't directy manufactered by ATI....

Cyber, Dont worry....and I'm sure that the card your looking at is fine. I prefer to buy built by ATi cards, but I'm also fond of Hercules 3rd party boards.

dont worry about it man lol~

we just talk about it so much here that certain things are assumed to be known

but of course not everyone is a video card enthusiast

um.. Sapphire is my favorite, and what GW said, but yeah ATI cards are the highest quality (and also usually considerably higher in price)

Actually I find that Hercules are THE most expensive, but that's usually because of all the goodies they add (HSF, Ram-sinks, Software). And I'd put their build at slightly above ATI for all that. However yeah those 2 are the very best, and are usually neck n neck for build quality. IMHO

I'd love a Hercules 9600Pro, but I doubt it will be availible soon enough. Instead I'll buy an Nvidia 9600, oops I mean ATI.

No, no , we never make mistakes.

No worries, I understood what you said.

The Sapphire should ne just fine. Many people prefer Sapphire as their OEM of choice. If you can pick up a Hercules, even better, but Sapphire´s are OK.

ATI´s own drivers will work on OEM cards, and you should use Catalyst from ATI, since they update it more often than the actual board manufacturer.
