I decided to get the 9700 pro 128mb instead of the 9800 pro 128mb because it's less expansive.

But I just want to make sure witch one is the best for playing pc games like battlefield 1942. Is it the All in wonder Ati radeon 9700 pro 128 mb or the Ati RADEON™ 9700 PRO 128mb? I went in Ati.com to see the specs myself and noticed that the All in wonder doesn't have for example: "SMOOTHVISION™ 2.0, HYPER Z™ III" etc......and these features are used in games I think. The regular Ati RADEON™ 9700 PRO has them.

But I also noticed features that the All in wonder 9700 pro had and the regular 9700 pro didn't.

So can you guys also tell me what exactly the All in Wonder can do? Is it like a dual display video with a remote?

The 9700 Pro AIW has all the same features as the regular 9700 pro. In addition to the non-AIW, it has a TV Tuner built onto the card, without any software processing, so that even if windows crashes, the TV tuner keeps going (it's pretty cool to see, the mouse won't move or anything, but you can keep watching TV). It also has a lot of neat litte features like a digital VCR, you can pause live tv, has various image sharpening features and real-time effects applications.

It includes a RF remote (so you don't have to point the remote at the receiver, just hit the button, it goes through walls and everything).

It's a nice card.

umheint0:
You say that the 9700 Pro AIW has all the same features as the regular 9700 pro.?

So then why are this features "SMOOTHVISION™ 2.0, HYPER Z™ III" and a few others from the 9700 pro NOT in the AIW 9700 pro features?

I could be blind because I don't see "SMOOTHVISION™ 2.0, HYPER Z™ III" and a few other features for the AIW 9700 pro. This link is where I checked the specs: http://mirror.ati.com/products/pc/aiw9700pro/index.html.

Can you say where excatly you see these features?

It uses the 9700 Pro vpu. The 9700 Pro vpu has all those features.

He's right, the AIW 9700 Pro IS a full flegged 9700 Pro PLUS TV tuner. It has all the original 9700 Pro features because these features are built into the graphics processor and both cards use the same chip.

Waht you did was look at the quick run down, which is not as descriptive. ALWAYS go to specifications, you were just looking at the 'At-A-Glance' info which is simply a synopsis of the MOST important features to ATI to convey to your in a brief snapshot.
Click on specifications on the left side of your own link or click on the link provided above.

umheint0: Can you tell me more about the features the All In Wonder has in addition to the 9700 pro?

What do you mean by "real-time effects applications" and "digital VCR"?

I take it you want a Radeon 9700. Good choice, it's a solid card.

To reiterate what's been said, the Radeon 9700 Pro is the exact same card as the Radeon 9700 All In Wonder but it's different on two features. One, the Radeon 9700 AIW doesn't support the ability for two monitor output and two, the 9700 Pro does not come with the extra AIW features. So, if you're willing to spend a little more on the AIW, the only thing you lose over the 9700 pro is two monitor output.

The AIW designation by Ati means that the card you're buying is more robust and feature filled because:
A) It has a TV tuner
B) It supports video in.

Obviously, the TV tuner allows you to watch TV whether it be from an antenna or cable. The video in ability is so that you can capture video from a video source. For example, you can rig a VCR up to the card and record home movies from your VHS's to the computer. Or, you can play Xbox/PS2 (though the quality diminishes on the monitor a little).

you seem to be familiar with the ATI website, here's the 9700 AIW info page: http://mirror.ati.com/products/pc/aiw9700pro/index.html

Here are two reviews of the card:
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1740
http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/aiw9700pro/
(btw - if anyone has another review link, please post it! thanks)

The 9700 AIW is a very good card. Personally, I plan on purchasing one within two weeks. Despite it's high price tag for a video card, it's benefits far outweigh the cost. Depending on how well I like my AIW, I may never buy a non-AIW card again.

"quality diminishes on the monitor a little" you say??? What exactly do you mean by "quality". I thought that playing on a monitor would increase resolution. So that would INCREASE quality.

The quality diminishes on compared to really good TVs, otherwise the tuner on the 9700 Pro is as good, if not better, than many mainstream TVs, like Wal-Mart brand junk (though not high-end Sonys and others like it).

Hawki also forgot the remote control. It's $50 on it's own, so the little price difference between the regular and AIW gives you over $200 worth of hardware for like $50. It's a good deal. I love the card. The tuner is definitely the highest quality once I've ever used, it has the capture mode, so you can pause live tv, record shows, and setup programs to tape in the future (like a regular vcr). It's also got some neat features, like Thruview (which creates a translucent overlay of what your watching over the entire desktop, including any windows you're working in. You can also set the video image to be the background as well (pretty cool having a whole simpson's episode as the background, and not just a screenshot).

The Xbox, PS2 and GameCube were developed for TVs that run at different refresh rates and scanlines. Signals to your TV are at a lower resolution than your monitor. Yes, the console graphic quality is going to go up a bit on the monitor, but it's not going to be picture perfect like gaming on a HDTV or from your computer.
