Tech-Report got their hands on the new FX 5200.
http://www.tech-report.com/

It looks very dissapointing. In the tests that the geforce 4 MX 460 can play, the Fx 5200 loses to this POS card. Nvidia has really outdone themselves now.
"Lets introduce a crappy card in the form of the 4 Mx, and then we'll release an even crappier card later".
It does support direct x9, but what's the point if you can't get decent frames? Another big let down by Nvidia.

dx9 is pointless if you can't get good framerates in the new games that actually have it

teh 9000pro, a significantly stripped down version ofthe 8500, is clearly STILL superior to Nvidias offering tothe budget market

and the budget line of cards is closer to what id buy than the top of the line like the 5800ultra. if nvidas going to pull this, ill not buy from them again, even if they do pull up their socks and the NV35 is faster than the 9800pro

Seems Nvidia has been pulling a lot of crap from out of their behind and trying to sell it. This is going to far. I got suckered in by Nvidia's bull and bought a geforce 4 mx 440, and i must say, that my card, despite being based off a core that is 4 years old (or thereabouts, the geforce 2), it'll still compete with the latest offering from Nvidia in the low end sector. Sad, very, very sad.

Oh well, time to pick up a nice shiny 9600 Pro!

yeah the 9600pro (9500pro is even faster..but not as overclockable :D) is in a class of its own in those benchmarks...

once again, i can say that ATI is the best video card manufacturer PERIOD.

the reason for this is once ATI's top of the line cards are outdated, it sells them as budget cards. this is very benificial to the consumer and for developing games as well

Ok like I said before the FX5200 does have a place (other than a garbage dump, yeah I know) and that would be for the 'limited' 3D that we will see in future OSes and such, but as it goes for being a 'Gaming' card and for being a CURRENT offering, it's pretty weak!

Anywhoo, sorry folks just had to add my bi-weekly pro-Nvidia post to avoid 'Fanboy' status.

Thank you and have a nice day!

NV35 is gunna OWN = 256bit+2.2ns memory@900Mhz....fillrate is gunna surpass the 9800Pro......that being said, I'm not an ATi faboi either....but I really am stoked to see this card perform.

im really stoked too

but how many people are going to buy it? prolly like 1 out of every 30-50 people. the rest are going to go for the budget-midrange cards

this is totally rediculas, to have an older, oudated model of your PREVIOUS budget line outperform a NEWER model that meant to replace the older one

sorry but that just pisses me off. and it will go for probably the same price as a 9100, which will totally smack it around 3 times over. so what if the 9100 is only DX8, because the 5200 cant even do DX9 effects as far as im concerned. 15fps isnt playable. and it will only get worse because games only get more and more demanding

the selling point of this card is its future-proofness.

I can see why ATI made thier release schedule longer. Their is NO competition from Nvidia. ATI might be a little concerned about NV 35, but if it follows Nvidia schedule like the NV30 (Paper launch, and then wait how many months? I still don't even see a Fx 5800 non-ultra on store shelves). I think ATI is going to take the extra time and really make sure the R400 is something.

Funny. Nvidia's high end line belongs in the garbage, (or at least in the shed as a leaf blower) and their low end belongs in the garbage.

Sargeduck...I'm an ATi fan to the max, but I appreciate Nvidia's stuff as well. None of their stuff needs to be thrown in the garbage. You kinda sound childish with your rants...

Sorry, you're right. I guess I did get a little carried away with the rants. I guess dissapoinment to the extreme. Nvidia suckered me into the whole "geforce 4 mx" thing, and I'm still not quite over them pulling the wool over my eyes. So maby not in the garbage, but at least ebay :)

I gotta say my $.02.

Back in the day, I knew nothing about video cards, and I ended up with an ATI Mach64. It served me very well for about five years, I must say. In that time, many different cards came and went. When I finally upgraded, I looked at the price/performance of what was around, and I got a GF2 GTS, which also served me well. A little while later I went for a GF3 Ti500, which also served me well. Now, since I have the money, I looked at what the top of the pile was, and got a BBA Radeon 9700 Pro AIW. My next upgrade? Whatever I like at the time.

The moral of the story? Only fanboys lose in this competition. If you choose the card that's right for you, you can't lose. Right now, it seems that nVidia is not the choice for us l33t gamers, but it might be right for someone else (though I gotta say it's hilarious that new generation cards which are supposed to last for years in the future are outdated before they are released).

If the NV35 kicks, I'll get one. If ATI counters with something even better, I'll get that. I'll buy what the market is offering me at the time. I recommend you do the same.
